i have a list of lps i want, and always check the bins at my favorite used record stores, and usually not find them, but discover vinyl jems i buy. i guess the quest is part of the fun for me. usually, i end up coming home with a care package of good stuff. there are still many lps i want , not yet on cd anywhere, and sometimes, i find the lp, or in most cases, the compilation cd is available, but i rather have the exact release recording of each lp.
my Vindicator i found for about 5 dollahs in good shape, and one of my favorites is Phil Spector's Christmas Album in very good condition! it's the STEREO version of its mono CD counterpart. that's the way to enjoy it: in STEREO! it's not in cd stereo yet, i think,,
but maybe somewhere( cd recorded from lp does not count!)i mean stereo recorded from the master tapes for cd. cheers!blab blab....

Nice find, bobf. I just found Out Here & False Start...NM. It's in the mail to me with the rest of my finds.
Oh! & I found Richie Valens' ("La Bamba", "Donna") first LP on Del-Fi....first press, blue & black label in the best condition my local Iowa record guy says he's ever seen...probably NM-- Paid ten bucks for a $300++ LP.
Such a big loss..the day the music died. Should make a trek to Clear Lake, Iowa to see the memorial where Holly,
The Big Bopper & Valens died. Still enjoy Don McCleans tribute song......a pretty good LP, too.

by the way, your Spector Chrismas album is considered one of the best early stereo LPs!! Generally MONO is the better audio listen from that period. Stereo hadn't really caught up yet.... & I'll take MONO for most 60's pressings over
stereo. MONO Surrealistic Pillow, Sgt. Pepper's, The Doors & most Beatles, Beach Boys etc are far superior mixes since the stereo was usually just a mix down into two tracks & much was lost in the translation. Lennon & the Airplane much preferred the mono versions & have spoken of it often. (Pepper's stereo was a land mark recording & is wonderful with headphones, but much was lost & edited down. The beatles handled the edit/mix for the mono versions, & relegated the stereo to the editors OR ......the infamous Rechanneled Capitol Stereo!! (horrors of horrors....Pet Sounds is just awful in rechanneled stereo!)

trouble comin' everyday.......

Pretty sure mine is Richie Valens' first LP (first press), released just after his death.
Pioneer of Chicano Rock: influencing Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys, Carlos Santana......
With Valens dying on Feb 2, 1959, his professional career lasted only
eight months. Beautiful cover & great LP. Get the reissue if you can.
Vinyl size cover does the best justice to the great cover....but when isn't
that true? Next would have to be either Dusty Spingfield's
"Stay Awhile/I only Want to Be With You" LP (1964) & Beatles on VJ (1963).

What year was that Dion record, rocker? I love Dion & that song especially!!

He's a bit mad, isn't he.......?

Forgot that I had this one from 1962...11 year old kid listening to this one...so good.
A folk supergroup assembled by Albert Grossman....Peter, Paul & Mary. A pretty
astounding LP in 1962 !! Still have the original bought in '62.

When you noted PP&M, I just thought of the film "A Mighty Wind". I haven't seen it. Is it any good? I've heard it's a spoof of the folk music scene at the time.

No, but some of that folk scene is pretty ripe for parody.

Here is the 100 greatest albums of the 20th century by Spex (Germany). Ummm...one is notably missing! Any opinions here. Really!! The obvious pick is #1, but after that..........whokay!!?? An interesting mix to say the least.

http://rateyourmusic.com/lists/list_view?list_id=9023&show=50&start=0

This list (click on MOJO top 100 in the bottom left sidebar on the above site.."similar lists") is a little more to my tastes & opinions AND includes a certain important LP!!

"a mighty wind", is funny! some of the cast from " spinal tap", are in this, another mock-umentary. picture one of those clean-cut, peppy, wide-eyed, v-neck sweater wearing folk groups like the christy minstrals from 1961! hootenanny satire, and , again, Christopher Guest, Michael Mcean, Harry Shearer!cheers!

lemonade kid;

You're right, that is an odd list. No Stones? Bo Byrds? No Hendrix?

And who has actually listened to "Never Mind the Bollocks" lately, or the MC5?
As opposed to, say, the Clash, whose music has held up pretty well. Or is it just me?

I see the MOJO "100" list has Moby Grape in it. Been listening to the first LP a lot (again!) & '69 is great too! "Omaha" is so good...
well it's all good. There was a really nice CD reissue out with great extras, but true to the Grape's history, legal squabbles got it pulled from the shelves. Did anyone get that release?? I missed it?!!

Now I see that in my vision
That my eyes are seeing twice
Once for every expectation & once for what I realize.........
(Gene Clark, "Some Misunderstanding")
