Does anyone else sense the hand of the mysterious 'Carl' & his many pseudonyms(of many moons ago) on some of the recent postings across these boards?......Weird scenes in the Goldmine, me thinks! |

Ta for that link torben What a sad sight that is. I remember a while ago at a gig in Liverpool his false teeth fell out mid song. It was quite funny at the time but looking back I thought how I'd just seen an icon humiliated in front of friends & it sat uneasy with me. |

Sorry if I seemed a bit off-thread there waxburn - I was picking up on some of Caryne's observations that there do seem to have been several 'quirky' postings recently. These boards ( in common with others, I guess) have seen this before, with a series of random posts, often with a contentious/stirring tone appearing under differing pseudonyms, but found to be emerging from the same mischevious source.I seem to recall a 'Carl' as just one of the jokers (it may even have been his real name!),who enjoyed winding up many of the Love boardsters.I'm not accusing Gunther of not being sincere in his opinion of the Burg Herzberg gig,and feel sure that most board regulars are open to frank and honest debate. However, hang around here long enough, and every so often you will spot a post that makes you think....'What the *?2!!??'Cos Caryne wears her heart on her sleeve she is often the target for some of this odd banter....though I'm sure some of us Ol' Hippies are a source of much merriment to some folk out there. The sad thing is that these are not the best of times for Love fans....but ,hey,(and I speak as 'old fart' here)when has it ever been easy being a Love fan?Shine On. |

Some interesting points 'ofap', I don't remember 'Carl' but I do recall we did have a string of insulting posts some time back which purported to be from a variety of posters but when iep address looked into was all from the same guy...you are right there are plenty of them around and, sadly, with the band in their current situation, there are, so it seems, a few more with their own 'personal' reasons around who are out to slate the band. It's best now, I think, to ignore them, practically everyone I know (and plenty I don't) who has seen them on the recent UK tour raved about them so I think we all know what's what now.
Waxburn - Arthur does NOT own the rights to the 'Love' name or logo, that has been verified. |

i think there is something to be said for both sides. the current LOVE band is by far the greatest band thats backed Arthur, yet its hard to think of LOVE without Arthur Lee. Love with Arthur Lee and Johnny would have been a musical force to be reckoned with, and my hope is that they can all come together at one point. that said, if not, i wouldnt be adverse, to catching a LOVE show AND a solo Arthur show. |

don't think he could do a solo show to be honest
he needs others to support him (prop him up, catch him when he stumbles literally and figuratively, really)
Keep on shining |

i meant Arthur and a band, but billed as Arthur Lee. eventually, hell come back and perfom, when necessity requires. |

Lizzy is right, Arthur really does need support...in all senses of the word. If the time ever comes that Arthur is able to perform again the question will be who will actually want to put the shows on, after all the recent problems, let's be honest, he's now got a reputation as a liability. |

waxburn...I think that during the 'Forever Changes' days of the original band, Arthur wanted to be recognized as the outstanding member of the band, the leader of the group. I think he wanted to see his name in 'lights'. It's like when Jimi Hendrix said "Arthur Lee is LOVE" or something like that. Arthur has put together various different incantations of the band from Four Sail to present, but invariably, they've all been LOVE with Arthur Lee (minus Four Sail). The current band (with or without Johnny) have been with Arthur the longest. But to me, the original band (who I unfortunately never saw) was the best. The talent of the others in the original groups (including Snoopy and T-Jay) is OUTSTANDING. Don't get me wrong-I really like the current band immensely and would see them at every opportunity [those opportunities are far less here in the States, but I did get to see them twice last Fall].

from what ive heard the original LOVE was a hit and miss propostion depending on where their collective heads were at each particular show. im sure that when they were on, nobody could touch them, but the current band is very consistent in their playing day in and out. i know that arthur has had many incarnations of LOVE but this is the first one that doesnt include him. id rather see arthur on a bad day, than clapton (you can tell every lick before it happens, predictable and cold), arthur, tho, is real. whatever his state, itll be a show you wont forget. i suspect the clapton shows i saw were great. im not sure, i dont remember them. |

hi again folks
Just want to add a few words to this. I think it's cool that people express their opinions across a wide range of views, so long as they dont get as nasty as they do on some other bands websites.
In fact I was surprised over the years that no-one really criticises any show they saw...and then in hindsight say 'oh it was crap etc'. I really dont think that helps anybody get a grip on the experience...
So it wud be good if those now talking about lousy gigs in UK cud at least say which ones they consider those to be....
I saw around 8 or so from Jan 2003 and only the bristol one this year was sub par -in the first half anyway... Tho I've always been facinated by how long it takes AL to 'accept the love' from the audience and wake up at a show... that's always been part of it for me. Urging him on and smiling when he gets to a happy place.. All part of what I see as the audience's job with some artists for difrent reasons in each case, but ultimately, the more u give a performer the more they can give you back. One thing that makes musical art difrent from all other kinds...
I think the issues here, clothes apart, is the idea that the band played like they didnt care. I honestly can't believe that, and this I think may be the root cause of people's negative reactions. I would imagine that as always they gave their all. In the present situation, with people trying their hardest to support those guys as human beings, it is inevitable that some/one of us wud take offence at that personal slight.
Same time, it's easy to post without knowing the full situation/thinking to choose words carefully, and even more so if English isnt your first language [we shud be so lucky folks...]
So hopefully this will die down, and we will learn from it.
oh, and Mike....
PLEASE stop taking the odd negative comment quite so seriously man ! Try and focus on the many positives. I know it's hard - I always focus on the negative faces/responses when I perform/lecture.. and it sucks to be shaped that way.. But in the end, I/you have to let go of it and have more self belief. Took me decades to do that ! Here's wishing that for you a lot quicker than for me, man - you deserve it !

Paddieu: If Mike took every comment personally he would have been gone a long time ago. He has taken abuse from fans and I personally have witnessed Arthur's abuse to him onstage in front of the fans along with Arthur's jealousy of him. Mike overall ignores most of the garbage as that is just what it is. But he is human afterall and enough is enough

Have to agree with you Paddieu on the issue that the band allegedly played as if they didn't care. Having seen them 4 times now, have always been impressed by how much they give, and the show at Frome was exceptional-they couldn't have given more - would have paid more than a mere £14 to see them. And it's great to see that 99.5% of those who post here had similar postive experience. Think that says it all!
