My thoughts were, I've been less than enlightned by "books" that were commissioned by the family of the person being written about,in essence hand picking the author and publisher, one dosen't usually bite the hand that's paying the bills.
who knows my misgiving's may prove to be groundless, we shall see what we shall see! |

As many Love members possible were interviewed including all living original members,
and members of later incarnations. And many friends, associates, "enemies"...
over 60 interviewed, I believe. So it is not tainted....all sides are shown without prejudice as is usual in Einarson' books. Arthur is not portrayed as a saint here.
Here is an interview with John by Music Tomes. The great research and care taken, especially
when writing about an artist who has passed away, is made evident here. John cares to get
it right.

Yes. Unfortunately.
This from John:
I just now checked out the board for the first time in a long time and

by Diane Lee to do this book. Hardly. I am an independent writer who has never
been brought in by anyone to write a book for them. Period.
I initiated the book. I contacted Diane for her cooperation, I initiated and conducted the
interviews, and the publisher is paying for it. End of story. There is no whitewash by any
means and you'll see that when you read the book. Feel free to pass this along.

I hope this ends the speculation and trash talk. I have never read a book by John that
did not provide every side available--on any topic within his books (check out the Burritos),
without editorializing, AT ALL!

any new book can only add to the LoVE canon. We can only rejoice at another work
executed with the sincere desire to add to the Arthur Lee /LoVE STORY.

I never Swore at you nor were you accused of being "bought and paid for." Rather than clearing up my misgivings you added more.

.......and I for one, definitely will be reading it. Any music writer with such a strong track record has to be worth the reading. However much we may all agree...or disagree...with the conclusions reached, it is clear that a great deal of research has been carried out. And with that in mind,I welcome its publication with open arms!  |

Just waiting for the book now to get some insights into what I think is one of the greatest records ever made...... |

Your post clearly implied that John was included in a group
of writers who write "less that enlightened books, who
were COMMISSIONED by the family, handpicking the author
& paying his bills".
If that is not what you intended, and I give everyone here the
benefit of good intentions...how could John have taken it any
other way.
You seem to somehow imply John is an enemy of truth and would
not be right for such a sacred subject. I hope I am wrong and view
everyone here as a member of the Love circle of friends...
including John (who has loved Arthur/Love since their first LP
was released in 1966(? my mind is off today, right?).
This is not a further debate or jibe on my part, just a
friendly clarification, Gatemouth!

Just read an old Record Collector interview with Arthur (from around the time of Arthur playing in Liverpool - recorded on video according to Arthur)
Will post a new topic shortly on Arthurs early band

My posting was never meant to offend, yet on closer inspection my words were rather poorly chosen, and for that I apologize, but to my defense I have been disappointed many many times before and may have become a bit jaded.
One point I'd like to make is I am a fan of the group Love and not just Arthur.
So many writers, have failed to tell the "whole" story. The back story here is fascinating,with enough twists and turns to make a roller coaster designer proud, and I feel real sadness to think it may never be fully told.
There are many many facets of this group, that have never been explored or even touched upon by any of the books that have been written about Love.
If as you say John is the "real deal" then maybe this one will be different and in fairness I will reserve judgement until I have read his work.
And again it was never my intention to cast aspersions on a writer I've never met.
By the way did you know that the first incarnation of Love (the American Four) included Henry Vestine and Larry Taylor of Canned Heat.
