That concerto for pedal steel makes me curious and I too, have heard that it's pretty tough to master the instrument.

And fyi..the UK contributed to the country sound back then in the early 70's with "Matthew's Southern Comfort"....fronted by Ian Matthews who sang and Gordon Huntley on steel...had that "English" country sound mixed in with a little Byrds..very nice...and if anybody knows other English bands that went "country", oh let me know!

I have more 'work' for you, rocker. If you or anyone want a few FREE mp3s of Ian Matthews, go to:
http://www.bluerose-records.de/index.asp ( Gimme An Inch & Horse Out In The Rain are two great ones
you can download). Click on "MP3" at the top menu & scroll down the artist's to Iain Matthews, There are also some other good country rockers. Ian (now Iain, I guess), from Fairport Convention, went solo with Matthew's Southern Comfort.
What a great debut album. Richard Thompson also appears on guitar. He is the best....RS top 20 guitarists of all time!
Check out 'Shoot Out The Lights'!! Richard & Linda's best, I think. Not so much country as, folk rock.

By the way, Ian Matthew's "Valley Hi" LP was produced by Michael Nesmith. There's that name again......

And yah, rocker, Eno & Cale really jelled WELL when they joined forces.....two really distinct & individual styles
that somehow combined for some unique, fantastic music......I love Cale's voice.

Oh and anyone into Steve Earle's amazing music?!!

You know thwe topic I wanted to pick up on is really "music appreciation" so I'm not going to start another thread. But I wanted to ask from all of you (since you all have keen musical taste!..;-)...) what is your "lost" gem that isn't up on the record radar so to speak but should be considered up there with the "great" records and we know what they are. I've found that there are "revelations" in what gets chosen. And from this we can certainly can get new tunes to check out for all of us.

Good one, rocker. This will get me going thru my collection, but for starters....
I'll start with a band that had a 'hit' in '69.......not really under the radar for us who listened &
collected alt psyche in the '60s, but probably obscure to later generations....MASON PROFFIT & their counrty-rock,
freak-anthem "Two Hangmen". You can download the free MP3 at this site. Their 5 LPs are country-rock classics.
http:www.masonproffit.com/ The line from the song, "the man's name was I'm a Freak the best that I could see",
was enough to get me...."and now there's two hangmen hangin' from a tree...."

This next one is obscure to most, I think. Orchestral pop-psych LP.....concept album....with Moodies, Love influence,
I'm sure. WITCHITA FALL's "Life is But A Dream". ....on Imperial/Liberty in '69. An amazing obscurity.
Have you heard it, rocker or anyone?!! The full LP download is availble on the web........haven't tried any as I have the vinyl, but here is one........

Hey, rocker....the site with Zager & Evans (their second LP is a free download there!) has a great one..one that many don't associate with Chad & Jeramy style..."Of Cabbages & Kings". One of the first psych albums & a very satirical, darkly
themed LP with an experimental track that takes up the whole of side two.....sound familiar? Released a few months after Da Capo....but has been said that this one succeeds! Perfectly produced by Gary Usher Which leads to Gene Clark with the
Gosdin Brothers, produced by Gary Usher, too.

i've added several posts here....sorry, rocker...you'll need to back up a little.
One more obscurity, though not to many of us here, is Gene Clark....any Gene Clark LP,
but most especially "NO OTHER"!! His opus. Wonderful........if any here don't have it, please do!!!

Gene Clark...I'm not sure if the biz turned on him or he turned on the biz...didn't achieve fame after the Byrds...but right there's the legacy of all his songs....

I've found the harrowing 'you were on my mind' I was banging on about in early june on this thread.
It's Amory Kane on 'memories of time unwound' produced by john paul jones it says here. - I had it on vinyl all along.
Must get the turntable wired up.

Keep on shining

got another, rocker & all......Paul Parrish "The Forest Of My Mind" 1968....haven't come across a bad review......
always a 4-5 star review. Obscure folk-psych. Very good, Donovan-esque comparisons. Extremely rare & obscure.
see review link & free full download link. Have you listened to Wichita Fall?

*****************************************************************************************

NOW for a really rare band with comparisons to Strawberry Alarm Clock, Jefferson Airplane & the vocal complexities of Mamas & Papas.....a fuzz acid psych gem! Male/female vocals....great standout guitar & flute work.
This one's on the Hobbit label so it's got to be good & rare! Don't pass this one by, anyone! Please!!!
