Well noted RW, I've had my eye on that one, thanks! (And now I think about it, HPL the writer did have his 'prettier' moments himself.) |

Thanks for your thoughts on this astrolabe33 and Signed RW. I first became aware of HP Lovecraft in 1972 when I was at Leicester University. A friend played me the second album and I immediately became a devotee. Shortly after that both albums were re-released on a UK budget label - albeit with very different sleeves from the originals - and so I was able snap them up immediately. I've never heard the live recording - and so thanks for the call on that. A song that has had a resonance with me all these years is 'That's how much you love me baby (more or less)'. |

One listen to the H.P. Lovecraft "Live at the Fillmore" CD should quickly dispel any notion of this band being too "soft and pretty." Not that they couldn't do soft and pretty, and do it extremely well, (amazingly great vocals) but this was a world class psychedelic rock band of their time. Both of their studio releases are excellent, but this live thing is stunningly good and is highly recommended!
I totally agree with that |

The Zodiac Cosmic Sounds - a wonderful blend of beautifully read poetry and ethereal west coast music from 1967. It was originally on Elektra and is ideally played back to back with 'Forever Changes'. If you've never heard it, it is available in a superbly remastered and well documented form from 'Water' - a subsidiary, I think of Rhino. Definitely in the the Summer of Love's top ten. I promise you...play it a couple of times and you'll be asking directions to Monterey! |

bobf..some good tracks on that one..I remember all too well that crazy mixed up time when the record came out...didn't think the "center" would hold"!......and you kind of reminded me with another reecord when you mentioned "Up Against the Wall..MF's"!..it was "David Peel and the Lower East Side" record..maybe some of you are familiar with it....ps...it deals with imbibing the "psychic vegetation"...
Also, I'm a bit embarassed that I'm not familiar with those HPL records..(where was I at?.. that is the question!). I'm going to see if I can get them and take a listen after what you all said....... |
