Truth- Jeff Beck Does anyone know why Jeff never achieved the fame he deserves. For awhile, he was considered the greatest, above Jimi and Eric.
Tom Petty- Breakdown, very smooth and funky |

Just a theory....By any measure, I think Beck is up there as one of the greatest guitarists music has produced in our era. A musical genius with those fingers and chord progressions. There's something he said that I think might suggest why he didn't get the so-called monstrous commercial success you're talking about. He said "I don't care about the rules. In fact, if I don't break the rules at least 10 times in every song then I'm not doing my job properly". (sounds like another fellow around here who also broke the rules, eh?) From that you know he did work in a bunch of genres..rock, power rcok, jazz/rock fusion. Hard to typify the guy. Probably people just didn't know what to expect from him since he was all over the place with his experimentation. Also, I think he was kind of reclusive, wasn't he? And if you're out of the public eye well you're just not on people's radar. But he's a great one. Hey didn't he "found" Led Zep????? |

I listened to a side of Gary Numan's "Replicas" last night. I thought it still stands up pretty well. |
