I have to second John E and put 'Live and Let Live' up there with the best. When I heard it live on the Love comeback in 2003 I was deeply moved. It seemed autobiographical, describing Arthur's recent incarceration, especially with the gestures that Arthur used to emphasise the message. I saw the song in a different light after that. Subsequently, when I read that it was inspired by one of my all time favourite Buffalo Springield songs 'Broken Arrow', it cemented my connection with the song.

After the recent Newport show I have been obsessed by 'Can't Explain' and 'Seven and Seven Is'. Arthur's interpretation of a lounge scene with his dad and dog is so surreal on the latter. But it all depends on what you heard/saw last. Just my two-pennyworth!

This week it would be:
Stephanie Knows Who- the Lovely delirium, Arthur's feverish shout out to some mysterious girl whose mind and he belong together..

The Castle- Still gets me every time..Images of them holed up at Bela Lugosi's noirish Castle....the start-stop of the bass, the way Arthur says Me-xi-co...the harpsicord break...the cascading ending.....remains enigmatic to this very day.

Maybe the People Would Be the Times- "What is happening and how have you been"....A cinematic painting in lycergic technicolor..the horns adding other-worldly structure to this timeless slice of wistful and blissful psych....

God knows ...they're all brilliant, but the biscuit for me is taken by Laughing Stock..pretty much the
last thing the original group recorded together.Where did that wierd chanted intro come from? And the second part of the song(the uptempo section) is musically and lyrically an accurate account of how the band literally fell-apart six months or so after it was recorded! How strange is that?
First heard it on the late great John Peel's "Top Gear"Radio One show September 1968?It took me 8 years to find out what it was called because I didn't catch the title when Peelie played it and initially it was only available on 7"single which was quickly deleted. Finally discovered it on John Tobler's "Love Masters" compilation in 1976 at a Birmingham record shop called "The Diskery"(a favourite haunt of one Robert Plant, who lived in the next valley to me when I lived in Wales and who is as everybody knows a great Arthur Lee and Love fan!
