Amen, Mike P..(in reference to Arthur choosing the healthy route). Now is the time. He's got the devotion of the people, his band is friggin' brilliant, and he still has the ol' magic if he chooses to go that route! I feel very strongly about this. When I first saw him shortly after his release, it was truly the greatest rock show I've ever seen. Soulful, generous, playing harmonica, tamborine, hitting high notes, getting behind the drums after the encore! Eyes lively and shining. Dropping cryptic little anecedotal gems between songs...I was spinning for days afterwards. Hate to say it, but self-destructive Arthur from last week was a true Bummer in the Summer. We All know he's his own worst enemy, etc...you would just think by now he'd be bored and exhausted by the toxic route. But obviously it's not that simple. He's sixty years old and still has that indescribable mojo...let's just hope he gets on a wheat grass and carrot juice kick real soon!

Thanks for your reply to my last post on the subject of 'Love in Frisco Last Night', Michael. It was written after reading Mike R's July 1st. Diary, but before I knew that Arthur would be staying Stateside this time. I appreciate that the language used may appear forthright or combative to some, but, since I believe that Arthur can be of that disposition on occasion, and also strongly suspect that he has started to visit the 'board, I thought that they were the right words to use in the circumstances. I wish the man well, and can only hope that I hit the mark with positive effect. My two suggestions in response to your earlier posting about what songs people wanted the band to play live were made with the same intent, though I acknowledge that the second, which I shall not repeat here, could have been accompanied by a more succinct choice of words, which I don't doubt caused some readers to think that I was making idle and very insensitive fun. Far from it. I apologise to those who did not ' get my drift' and may have been 'peed off' as a result. I figured and hoped that Arthur, should he read or hear of that potential nickname, wuuld take all the steps necessary to ensure that it would be totally inappropriate, and therefore wouldn't stick. May that be the case. My first suggestion, which I will repeat, 'Johnny B. Goode', was made with a more obvious ulterior motive. I don't doubt that he is doing just what someones oldest and best friend should. Having watched him at close quarters and now read Tina's excellent interview I know him to be someone who has my total respect. I also reckon that his fine demeanour is in part due to him having done something that Arthur has not. He has left the city in which Arthur remains. Arthur should follow suit, and leave the two 'reds', the book and telephone, behind. Time to set a different scene, with different people who may be better for him, band members excluded. While FC would not have been written without it, that place may be doing him more harm than good. I hope that he finds a new love when he does so. Preferably someone who will not have a dog in the house... The above two attempts at 'tough Love' may possibly have made the man spit, and I guess that I've blown my chaces of a handshake and a signed album sleeve should we ever meet, while the chances of a blow to the chin may have improved somewhat. So be it. Get well soon, Mr. Boom-bip-bip, if that was you. For the good times. |

Must admit that I thought 'yuk' too.... is that what people purge themselves with over there? I don't want Arthur to turn into a gerbil or wabbit. A healthy version of the same will do just fine..
