Whatever the reasons were for AL to be in that state I just keep hoping it was a one-off and he'll be back to his usual self for the next gigs. I'm just concerned for his well-being, he needs to be cherished!

Caryne, I did watch it all. You've never seen anybody get pissed when someone close to them dies? I certainly have. And when he says he only found out 2 minutes ago, I'm sure that was a figure of speach. He obviously had plenty of time to get into that state, and he might have been on something else too, no?
Yes, I have seen someone drunk when someone dies but, honestly, should he have gone on if he was that upset? Was the 'two minutes ago' thing a 'figure of speech', I don't know, I'm not sure..he talks, imo, as if he really has only just found out. I agree it could be more than just alcohol BUT there have been times on the recent tour when he hasn't been totally together (to say the least)and I don't think you can blame anyone for being more than just a little concerned about the whole thing? |

i cant really comment on the set cos even though i was there i was in a state of 100% inebriation ! but my mate who drove us from Valencia and was sober was gutted by the performance and reckoned the magic pixie dust was making an appearance, i had apparently walked out after the second song and fell asleep somewhere ! |

That was sickening to watch. I don't get a good feeling from this, but let's all remember Arthur is a SURVIVOR. |

Looking at Arthur at the end of the gig looking forlorn really made me sad. He'll be cool though. As Markk put it Arthur is a survivor |

You are right about how sad it all seemed with Arthur alone on the stage at the end...let's truly hope that the optimists are right..can't say I'm totally sure about it all though. |

Count me as an optimist. When I originally saw it I was horrified. I told my wife and explained how letdown the fans were but explained that Arthur was distraught about Rick James' death. My wife said that we should cut him a break saying that it is a very human reaction to be heartbroken and lose control when a friend dies. And I think she is right. Because Arthur in his apparently drugged up state (if it was booze there was more to it than that since he didn't really stumble too much...he was more severely sedated) mentioned Rick James between almost each song and apologized profusely suggesting that he at least was aware that he was falling apart onstage. My prediction is that there is a 80% chance that Arthur will put on blazing shows in the upcoming gigs. I think that word will get back to him in no uncertain terms that the gig was a mess and that the band must prove itself in a big way. Combined with "competition" from the Zombies on the upcoming shows, look for Arthur to exorcise his demons and amaze like never before.
It indeed is unwise to count him out or to ever bet against him. He certainly will disappoint on occassion and can be a maddening person for that reason but he encapsulates so much of the human condition and all that it includes like sky reaching beauty and the depths of demons seemingly having their way. I can only hope with all my heart that Arthur gets his **** together and that the band have the patience and tolerance to keep giving the band a future shot at success.
Thoughts?

This morning was the 1st chance I got to see the video. "Pathetic" is all I can say. I will still go to see them in NYC and can only hope that he will indeed have his sh*t together. I think (and hope) that he will. |

You critics of Arthur are quite an unforgiving lot. This is the man who brought you Forever Changes and has soldiered on year after year against all odds. He has endured a lack of fame, endured a 6 year stint in prison, dealt with drug problems, alcohol, and adversity the depths of you will never know and you sit here all high and mighty.
Yes, the show was a disaster but look at his overall track record. For you to piss on him because he got wrecked for one show in Spain is unfair. What have YOU contributed to the world of art. Nothing is likely the answer you ungrateful hippies. |

bigrubberglove, Over the past 2 years Arthur has made a come back no one would have believed. During this time many folk on this board have travelled hundreds if not thousands of miles to see him.If you think a gig like this should pass by with no comment or concern I dont know what planet you come from. Far from pissing on Arthur, we just hate to see him pissing on himself. I'm sure that every poster on this board is hoping that Arthur puts this firmly behind him and returns in triumph. |

bigrubberglove-I don't think anyone here is 'pissing' on Arthur. We are all very concerned for his health and well-being. We are all probably the most intense fans of Arthur. I'm the first to say that what a person does on their own time is their own business. But there is some 'professional courtesies' that are expected especially from Rock legends when they perform. Think about all the paying fans that came to see him perform. Was it fair for them to endure this? I think it's rather unfair to term us as 'ungrateful hippies'. Many Brits who frequent this site daily have gone to see Arthur perform while he was in England many, many, times. Are they to be considered 'ungrateful hippies'? And what have you contributed to the world of art? Come on man-what's up? |

I think you've got hold of the wrong end of the stick Bigrubberglove, all the comments I've read from the regular fans on here have been made out of love for Arthur, no one wants to see someone they respect and care for in such a state whatever the reason was for it. I'm hoping it was a one-off because of the circumstances and hopefully by the end of next week he'll be back on track having performed some cracking gigs in LA.

I don't think any of us are saying Arthur's glory days are over, we are all just concerned for him and for the band, who many of us have come to know, and care, for quite a bit. I don't think expessing our concern is in any way detrimental to Arthur, as has been said, many of us, myself included have spent an awful lot of time, and money, travelling to see Love over the past few years and want nothing more than to continue doing so. We are all just worried and sincerely hope that the gigs coming up will show Arthur 'back to form'. I think looking for reasons why it happened may not get us anywhere...only Arthur, I suspect, truly knows! |
