Thanks for the insight into what happened in Spain TNG. I agree totally with what Caryne said - we're only discussing it because we care about Arthur and the band and want to see them back on track.

Thanks for the facts TNG. I've had a few journeys like that; both when flights get disrputed and when the airline schedules conspire to make what would seem a simple journey turn into a test of stamina. To have to do a gig after something like that is asking a lot of anyone, and I hope whoever sorted the travel arrangements realises that now. Didn't other people have similar problems getting to Benicassim and fail to show? |

Those travel details sound bloody ridiculous...to put it mildly...whoever arranged them should be shot or sacked (or both!) I understand Morrissey didn't show either because of travel problems...perhaps he couldn't even consider going through what Arthur and co did? |

That's good news that you talked to him, but boy is that video horried. Arthur was such a pro. And to have the strings with him too! Yikes!! I hope he gets his act together. |

Caryne, I did watch it all. You've never seen anybody get pissed when someone close to them dies? I certainly have. And when he says he only found out 2 minutes ago, I'm sure that was a figure of speach. He obviously had plenty of time to get into that state, and he might have been on something else too, no?
"Pissed" is one thing, bombed is an other. Arthur was bombed. From the sound of things, he was bombed before the Rick James news. |

AFAIK Morrissey travels with his own private jet, so he arranges the schedule to his tastes and needs. The official statement regarding him not showing up was some trouble with that plane, followed by a nervous breakdown. The fact that a flight from London to Valencia takes less than 2 hours doesn't necessarily mean that there should be no problem if you leave home just two hours before the show. His band and techies were at the festival since the day before. What people think is that he just didn't feel like playing that evening, thus dissapointing thousands of fans. Morrissey and Arthur Lee were the two big deceptions of the festival, two suposedly big stars, at least regarding the amount of money they get for a pathetic or inexistent show. I doubt I'll ever have the chance (or the wish) to see them again. On the other hand, Brian Wilson, Lou Reed and Kraftwerk among others gave the public what they wanted: memorable shows with professional performances of their classics.

I've read that, but, personally, I never jump to conclusions without hearing both sides of a story..which is often (as we have seen with the Arthur one)not exactly easy to get hold of..but, I must say, from what I understand, Morrissey was not using a 'private jet' on this occasion (you seem to have your sources, deltipo, and I have mine) Not being funny or anything, but as you are a new poster here I wonder why your concern for Arthur...you don't exactly seem fond of him? |

I find the viewpoint that Arthur intended to burn on stage astonishing. Also all this weird speculation about the authenticity of his grief explanation is creepy. As far as I'm concerned if thats what he said it was, thats what it was. 99.9% of the time what Arthur and Love give exactly this: "memorable shows with professional performances of their classics", and some. Arthur is and always will be a HUGE star, and instead of slating him why don't you go and tell your mates Brian etc how great they are, cos nothing you can say will stop me buying a ticket next time they're in town. |

I'm not a fan or anything. I was just looking forward to see him, as all comments I'd heard were sublime. I saw that sad show and was surprised that the NME didn't give a clue about what was going on. I came across this site and thought of passing my impressions. Nothing more.

Arthur is a huge star, that's out of discussion, and I'm not trying to slate him. And I'm certain that if the show I saw wasn't an exception, he wouldn't be now occupying the place he deserves in the history of pop music. The problem is that I don't know if he will be ever back in a town near mine.
Please accept my apologies if my words have upset anybody. It wasn't my intention. But don't let the fan in you hide the real facts. Artists are human too.
Peace. |

Well said Deltipo, and thanks for bringing this to our attention, however painful it may be. |

It is said that the reason morrissey refused to appear is because the festival organizers in Valencia sent an inferior model of car than the one proscribed in his performance rider to Barcelona. |

Although very funny, anon, he didn't leave the UK, so I understand...so not a lot of truth in it, is there? lol
As for deltipo, well, I'm glad you posted the stuff you did, just find it interesting you seem more concerned in knocking Arthur/the band than wondering exactly what the f*ck is going on...I've seen them live more times that I care to remember and I must say never seen a gig quite like that on and hope I never do! |

Not pleasant reading this. For what it's worth....having seen Mr Lee live a few times I am not too concerned. Why? because his eyes are alive, full of fun and a determination to confirm his legendary status. This cannot be said for others old and new I have seen. Dead eyes, doing it for the cheque. Mr Lee was out of it yes, but we all have those days. Its a shame because it was a big gig but fear not, those eyes will be looking down on the US audiences soon - full of mischief and love - you lucky people |
