Right, capt' Moody's thru "To Our Children's Children's..." mind trips and bread for for the soul--mana!

Beach Boys (even without Bryan when he was lost in the clouds) created some of the best LOST masterpieces ever created. People who don't know say "Oh...Beach Boys...no thanks....they played music about surfing and hot rods ...right"?

Here are some of the best albums ever made....
Pet Sounds(maybe all time #1..tied between Revolver and Forever Changes)
Smiley Smile
Wild Honey
Surf's Up...one of the best eco/protest albums ever
Sunflower
Holland

And of course and finally...SMiLE.
Oh and Dennis Wilson's.."PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE"!!

Just wonderful mind expanding psychedelia at it's very best.

Heres my take on Inside:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLm623LXFXo

I really never tire of listening to Stand Up. And of course Under Wraps, one of the 1st Tull albums I ever bought (after the Best Of - M.U. (Musicians Union) of course

shame for Mick that he didn't get on with Ian Anderson - I don't think anyone ever heard of Bloodwyn Pig. I love Tull, but I've never bothered to pick up any of the BP or Martin Barre or Mick Abrahams live

I guess I was too burned when picking up side Mac projects like Jeremy Spencer & the Children of God!

After hearing "This Was" vs "Stand Up" one can see the musical differences and therefore the breakup was a good thing from a musical stand point---as each went onto great success MUSICALLY but not financially of course.....
But Mick went with his soul....Mick and Ian had no bad feelings over the years and have played together ..& didn't Mick appear on a few tracks from various Tull albums too. Ian didn't evne mind when Mick put together his band (The This Was Band) to record and tour playing "This Was in full. A fantastic effort that is even stronger anf more mature than the original LP....though one can't help missong Ian's voice. Though the flutist fills in nicely for Ian!

Mick live and still going strong...the guitar man!!

Re:The Led Zep and Tull selections. You know, despite all the musical experimentation the Led went on to after their initial release, that one remains my favorite just for the simple reason it was the New Yardbirds as nature intended. Was intrigued to discover Birds' rhythm guitarist Chris Dreja was nearly a member as well. My guess is that the new combo's direction was too heavy to necessitate a rhythm strummer so off went Dreja to pursue a career in photography. It was he who took the photo on the back of the first album. All the way from "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" through "Your Time is Gonna Come" and "You Shook Me" and through the epic finale of "Dazed and Confused", the record is an absolute monument to British representation of American folk blues.I always thought I heard a passage in "Babe" that was similar to one in Love's "Live and Let Live". Musically, that is. Probably not coincidence seeing "Forever Changes" is one of Robert Plant's favorite albums. I understand he even mentioned Arthur Lee in his 1995 Hall induction speech. As for Jethro Tull, I virtually stole a nicely preserved vinyl copy of "Thick as a Brick" from Salvation Army for $1 and was quite impressed with the staunch musicianship that carries the wildly fluctuating progressions throughout.Ian Anderson is undoubtedly one of the greatest underscored artists ever.

they dream of dealing on the dirty boulevard

Give me your hungry, your tired your poor I'll piss on 'em
that's what the Statue of Bigotry says
Your poor huddled masses, let's club 'em to death
and get it over with and just dump 'em on the boulevard

Get to end up, on the dirty boulevard
going out, to the dirty boulevard
He's going down, on the dirty boulevard
going out

You know what popped into my head when I was thinking about the topic about that rock, brass combo Lemonade Kid posted? The whole discussion, which included my mentions of the jazzy sounds of Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears, made me think of "Vehicle" by the Ides of March. This was one hell of a piece.Fierce driving breaks with stern lyrical delivery amidst a wash of brilliantly executed brass rock.Bit of funky guitar as well.Great God in heaven, you know I love it!!

You know those album sides you may as well consider as good as one frigen track for all it's intents and purposes?I've recently rediscovered the "Apple Jam" disc of George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass".What a jam indeed!Ringo,Eric Clapton,Billy Preston,I think Gary Brooker from Procol Harum might be there. Many more. Also been returning,as I probably ever will to Charlie Rich's "Most Beautiful Girl in the World",a timlessly charming tear jerker.Always seems a bit short ever listen though. One final whole side contender.Side two of the Moody Blues' "Threshold of a Dream".Enchanting and mezmorizing.I would, however, have made one program change.I think the flow would have been even more successful if they had placed "Dear Diary" from side one in place of "Lazy day".which is nice, but for me it interrupts things just a bit in some conceptual way I can't quite put my finger on.Many people haev complained that "When I'm Sixty Four" may not have really belonged on "Sgt. Pepper" AT ALL!But at least with that one,the reason is rather apparent. Also, recently struck gold again at the thrift with Fleetwood Mac's pre-"Rumors" self titled 1975 effort.Always hopelessly romanticized by Stevie Nicks' lovely "Rhiannon" and "Landslide" compositions. Most certainly one of rock's more overlooked writers along with bandmate Christine McVie who scores wonderfully with "Over My Head".At least in her time with Mac,she relly had a handle on scoring music beautifully with lyrics and vice versa.
