We must have listened to a different album entirely. The version of Black Beauty I heard, had "Do the Jerk" and a bunch of instrumentals, Arthur recorded with Johnny Echols in the early sixties. It had some R&B stuff from the same period by Ronnie and the Pomona Casuals, and a dude named "Little Ray." There was also a "nursery rhyme" called "Beep Beep." Along with several other decidedly un-heavy, and completely forgettable songs. Oh I forgot to mention the rousing rendition of "It's the Marlin." Grammy quality stuff no doubt!

My Black Beauty boot has.. 1-The Ninth Wave 2-Rumble-Still-Skins 3-Soul Food 4-Luci Baines 5-It's The Marlin Baby 6-Everybody Jerk 7-Slow Jerk 8-I Been Trying 9-My Diary 10-I'm Good & Evil 11-Midnight Sun 12-Walk Right In 13-Skid, Not Really A Friend 14-Beep Beep 15-Stay Away 16-I Got To Find It 17-Lonely Man 18-Where Were you 19-You're Just A Product Of The Times 20-Give Me A Little Energy 21-Feathered Fish #1 22-Feathered Fish #2
The first nine tracks are more of a historical document and of interest as a Love fan, for me.
The remaining tracks are quite good and most bands would kill to have the talent to perform such Hendrix-meets-Love like tracks. A heavier time, but some great vocal and guitar work. I really like it.
So if you don't have it, or want an official release with liner notes, go for it!
And the studio version alone of "Product Of the Times" is worth it... And Feathered Fish #1 & 2 are good LOVE! _____________________________________________ Letting your freak flag fly is a state of mind, not a fashion statement. -lk |

When I look at the title in my iTunes player it is" Black Beauty & Rarities", so I assume the Rarities will not appear on the new release....just the good stuff. Not that the rarities are not good, they just need to be on a separate CD.

Hi Steve 64, i also want to get ARTHUR LEE, especially Remastered. but on the Play.com list the cheapest copy i could see was £8/99 ?? I had this yearsago on tape, but lent it to a friend that never returned it. I,d sure buy it for £4.99 though. |

you're not missing much. Even "Thailand" is better
I did a cover of Lee's "Many Rivers to Cross" off that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3iGClnSZGk
haven't heard the Jimmy Cliff version (from The Harder They Come film I think) |

Arthur, and Johnny both, said they received a stern admonition from the Secret Service, for recording a "vulgar" record about the Presidents daughter. That in itself makes suffering through the rest of the album almost worthwhile.... I said almost! |

I saw Arthur do this song a few times on the UK FC tour in 2003, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece (my son liked it but he was only 7 at the time!!) |

I'm surprised you weren't impressed Dukie? I thought it was a riveting cross, between "You light up my life" and Every body do the Jerk. |
