The FA say there won't be a rematch but the ref and linesman have been 'temporarily' suspended from duties!!!
Yes Caryne - I witnessed the same ludicrous mistake. You would think that the Bristol City manager would have had the decency to point it out to the fourth official. Exactly the same thing happened to Spurs when they played a cup tie at Old Trafford several years ago....needless to say, Alex Ferguson wasn't complaining on that occasion! I think that the only conslolation to be taken is the thought that the goddess, Fortuna tends to dish out good and bad luck in more or less equal measure - and that at some stage in the near future Bristol City will find themselves on the wrong end of some similarly outrageous refereeing decision.......I bloody hope so! |

I don't think Bristol City can be blamed, in interviews after both the City manager, chairman and fans all agreed it was a goal and, of course, they were denied a clear penalty in that game as well. The fault lies with the games officials and, of course, FIFA who are still refusing the have electronic methods used in games. It's about time football got itself into the real world, as other sports have done, and embrace technology. |

"..embrace technology"...
You know if there was a chip in the ball then the confusion would be at rest! Not sure where the FA is on that but soemthing like that could help the game there on that score when you're trying to deternmine if the ball went over the line.
Also, there was a study done at the Univ of Bath where sport researchers found that referees are inconsistent in their decisions and favor home teams. They looked at over 2500 Premiership matches and found that the refs were more likely to award yellow and red cards against the away team. Now I wonder how the FA guys took to that. The study does seem to suggest that maybe some sort of video technology should be introduced to be a check on that result. But it looks to me the FA is very conservative in this area. Maybe one day but I don't see it coming right now. Sometimes I think they beleive it may just cost too much to implement. In any case, that chip idea may go in first. If I was a manager and I saw a goal not counted man I'd go crazy. |

From what I understand it's not the FA that are so against technology it's FIFA (the international body).
There also needs to be something in the goal net area as well as a chip in the ball though as Saturday's goal was right in the back of the net (clearly to everyone except the officials!!) and just hit the post and bounced back out. |

Interesting... So does it follow that the FA would allow cameras to overrule referee calls if they could? I didn't think they were unanimous as a group on that. |

Sorry, I don't know all the details, just read that it's FIFA not so much the FA who are against the new technology. |

What a fantastic victory for Burnley tonight - it is so heartwarming to see a club with such a great history back in the big time. Also impressive was Spurs' 5-1 win at Hull - I fear that Harry's lads will take some stopping. Liverpool were back to winning ways with a comfortable 4-0 result against Stoke. In the Championship, it is good to see Newcastle getting off to such a good start...... following the torrid time they endured last season.
Stop press! Man City have just won 1-0 in Barcelona against the European champions... 'tis pity it was only a friendly...arranged in lieu of the postponed Everton match. |

Boy, Burnley got revenge, eh? Nice volley for the goal! So far if you ask me I'd think Alex's side should be scoring more goals. I thought Birmingham had a chance to knock'em off as well. Perhaps some creaking floors in Alex's house????......Looks like we're all happy today!

Yes, Rocker - the pressure is really going to be on for those top four places. I had a superb view of Adebayor's goal against Wolves. The trouble is that we failed to capitalise on our first half supremacy and the visitors had some great chances after the break. Still, as the cliche has it, three points are three points. Liverpool v Villa tonight - should be good! I must admit, those mutually affectionate neighbours, Tottenham and Arsenal are beginning to frighten me! |

Yes indeed, Rocker...there are certainly high expectations. Although of course Mark never seems to let the pressure get to him.....and we've had a decent start. |

Any Liverpool fans here? I grew up in the 70s in the westcoast of Norway, at that time most Kids here were much bigger fans of english football team than our favourite norwegian teams,my favourite player was of course King Kenny! I was so happy when my local team Bryne played them in 87 in a friendly match, seeing legends like Beardsley,Barnes and Rush in a vacation mode but still outclassing my team(which were among the 5 best in norwegian top division at that time) was one hell of an experience!!
So what about NOW? Still a huge fan but now I get much quicker over our losses, the weekend isnt desttroyed as it was back then(except for the seldom losses against Man U that is!) Alonso is ireplacebable but so is Ronaldo, much more fear for Chelsea this season |
