I have to hand it to that guy. He may not be at his peak but he still scores some nice goals off his free kicks (and still gets pciked for the Engalnd team!) He just did it against Barcelona. I'd be interested though in how England sets up their midfiled with Beckham in there. He isn't exactly "Flash" so I'd think somebody may have to do alot of running tactically speaking.... |

Anyway, the season will be starting shortly so good luck to you Spurs,Newcastle and Manchester City fans! Thanks for the good wishes Rocker. I think that this coming season will constitute Liverpool's best ever chance of lifting the Premier League title. I cannot see how Michael Owen can possibly make up the loss of firepower that United have suffered. But I do also wish the Red Devils well....just as I am sure all City fans do! |

Owen had to go somewhere after Newcastle were relegated, Presumably Manchester United just offered the most money, that's usually how it works |

Yeah, funnily enough Crouch was one who was offered more money to go elsewhere(Sunderland) but preferred to stay in the South and join Spurs |

When I began this thread nearly a year ago, I was predicting that Aston Villa would dislodge Arsenal from the top four. I was of course wrong about that but little did I realise then that within twelve months it would be my own club that would be carrying the weight of national expectation. Like Chelsea before us, we seem to be floating in a sea of monopoly money and I cannot help but feel that we are being made to pay through the nose for the players we are signing. This said, there is really something thrillingly surreal about it all....and never have I relished so much the prospect of taking my seat by the touchline for another season.
Anyway this is what I think (for what its worth)
1 Liverpool 2 Chelsea 3 Man United 4 Man City 5 Arsenal 6 Aston Villa 7 Tottenham 8 Everton |

Interesting picks! You know you're right on expectations. City's roster on paper I think is absolutely fabulous with great talent. Hughes has alot to work with. Of course it goes without saying that the entire team will be under ALOT of pressure on him to produce. Could this be the year for 'Pool? You have them up there so you think so! me, I'm just a little apprehensive in that the team could be considered a bit unproven playing togetehr when it gets outside the starting 11. Some don't think this is a problem but it's a long season and things happen, you know? We'll see. Also, Alonso has gone and Aquilani from Roma is in his place but he's hurt already. Omen? What I do know if 'Pool can continue their winning streak from last season it will give them a good start in their quest for the Premiership. As you know, it's been a while so they too have that expectation as well. You have Spurs at #7. heh heh Harry will take umbrage at you... I know they want to make a statement too! |

Yes Rocker - Spurs do have high ambitions for this year - and Harry will certainly want to see them pushing against the door of the Top Four as well. The great thing about all this is the prospect of uncertainty returning. West Ham and Fulham I think are two well run clubs who also deserve to do well. And having been brought up in Bolton for the first five years of my life.....I've a soft spot for them too. In fact Lancashire as a county now has eight Premier League clubs.....the four in Liverpool and Manchester as well as Bolton, Wigan, Blackburn and now, newly promoted Burnley. Yorkshire by contrast is now reduced to a mere one.....Hull City. Not that I'm one to gloat or anything! |

8,eh? That's incredible. All those teams getting their own support. Just shows the strength of "local" as opposed to "national" I'd say. Woulddn't that be correct?
Speaking of Hull, I have a Hull shirt, no not THE Hull shirt but a Hull, Massachusetts shirt where my cousin lives nearby. I'm just waiting for a Hull supporter to corral me here one day... just like when I have a 'Pool shirt on oh I get comments er especially from those "other" guys from Manchester.... |

Well, we're off.....and of course there were some fascinating results over the weekend. I don't think that I would have bet on Arsenal hitting six at Everton - even though Goodison is a ground where they have tradionally done well. Rocker - how right you were to suggest that I was underestimating Spurs in the predictions I offered a few days ago. It was a great win for Tottenham, though Liverpool were denied a clear penalty. I'm really looking forward to attending Man City against Wolves this coming Saturday. Of, course we should win that one...but with City you just never know.......it never get's boring! |

I watched the Spurs/Liverpool match (on TV) and can't say I noticed a clear penalty not being given to Liverpool, they did score from a penalty but, overall, I'd say Spurs outplayed them and deserved to win.
Not the Premier League but did anyone see that 'non-goal' at the Bristol City match at the weekend? The ball clearly went in for Crystal Palace but hit the bar at the back of the net and came back out. The ref and linesman both said it wasn't a goal. The FA say there won't be a rematch but the ref and linesman have been 'temporarily' suspended from duties!!! |

Well there are some people happy at the openers!!!!..........And well deserved! I saw the games. Hughes and Harry no doubt are feeling very good. I think Harry was up til 4 in the morning the day before thinking on how he was going to trump Benitez! Needless to say 'Pool did not play up to their standards. I thought it was only when Benayoun came in that the team kind of set up some probing attacks. Other than that, nilch. I was impressed with Lennon. Always a threat when he gets that ball at his feet and runs with steam. And I wouldn't have wanted to have been Moyes. You got to suffer at times when you're a manager in the Premiership! |
