Some game indeed, Rocker - I really thought at half time that the Reds were going to prove unstoppable ... though it was a tremendous performance from both sides.
But it is, of course, a very sad anniversary for the entire city of Liverpool today....as well as for Sheffield and Nottingham. BBC Radio have just been playing excerpts from the match commentary up to the point where the tragedy was unfolding - together with the present day reflections from some of those who were there. And so I would see last night's wonderful match as a tribute to the ninety-six fans who died that day. |

john...Right, close but no cigar. Chelsea came out of their slumber and drove a couple in!
You know I'm sorry for the tragedy. It looks to me it will never ever go away. There were some bad decisions made that day and that I'm sure many regret. I can see it has affected many people's lives. and they'll never be the same again. Liverpool will always have a big cross to bear on this. |

If anybody saw the Champions league final yesterday you saw a sublime Barcelona team! Beautiful passing, beautiful touch. Manchester apart from say the first 10 minutes just couldn't do anything. Barca made it look so easy....
Newcastle supporters.....sorry....

Yes Rocker - Man U have had several reality checks this season....not least of course the 4-1 hammering they suffered at home to Liverpool. On their day they do play some wonderful soccer though...and I do wonder whether they might have been better had the same lineup featured in last Sunday's game at Hull. United's exit to Everton from the FA Cup followed some eccentric team selections.
Looking back at the predictions I made at the very start of this thread, I note in all humility that they were both proved incorrect. Still, I have just renewed my seasoncard for Manchester City....I think that someone once said that it wasn't the failure they couldn't handle..........it was the hope! |

Well right all teams are like that until "reality' sometimes sets in. But #10 isn't too bad. And you were close to European play. Better things next year for MC and for 'Pool'!
And I'm thinking to try to go over for one or two games next season if the logistics work out.we'll see. hey maybe I'll take in a MC/Pool game, eh? |

Sad news about Sir Bobby Robson today - what a superb example he was for anyone who thinks that life has run its course by the age of sixty. I can just about remember him playing for West Brom during the early 1960s. |

Yes, it is sad. They don't seem to make footballers/managers like him anymore. |

I was really saddened by this news. Even though I was only 6 during the 1990 world cup and obviously not yet born when he was guiding Ipswich to European glory, he came across as a top guy, a real England legend. A total gent and an absolute credit to English football. it's just a pity there aren't a few more like Sir Bobby in the game.
This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....

You know when it comes to talking about a "legend" my thoughts are going to Becks who right now doesn't have too much going for him in LA. Some of the fans have turned on him for his stint away from the team. I know Becks has won a few championships and is also a great footballer and I wonder what his legacy will be when he eventually leaves football. |

Good point Rocker. I'm sure he'll be regarded as an England 'Legend' in the years to come. Whether this will be justified I'm not so sure. I like Beckham's attitude most of the time but I just can't help feeling he let himself down with the US move. He needed to get himself back in the England frame and appeared to choose money and fame in America rather than signing for a top European club and working hard to get himself back in contention with England.

You know I understand what he did and I'm sure he had to have let Galaxy management know of his plans. (we don't hear anyone in mgmt saying Beckham let the team down). I really think the Beckham bashing started with Donovan who kind of got the ball rolling. You know it was he who had to give up the captain armband when Becks came. Anyway, I think Beckham did a good thing here by giving some visibility to the game here. So I'll give him that. And btw I have his I think 60 yard shot catching the keeper off his line. It was pretty good!...... |

Beckham went to the USA when he thought his England career was over and he decided to get the money rather than just play at club level in Europe. When he got recalled to the England team it was obvious that he couldn't just be playing in the US as the quality of football played there simply isn't good enough for him to be 'match ready' for the England team, hence the move back to Europe, he simply had no choice. Personally I don't think he's been 'at his peak' for around ten years but he does bring something to a match, call it charisma or whatever so I understand why the England team still pick him. He will, of course, be a legend but as much for his fame as his skill. |
