well you know there's a saying around here "you gotta be in it to win it"...losing to Arsenal doesn't carry any shame...
now you know Pool beat Preston North End 2-0 but frankly they squandered many chances so for a bit if Preston could've put one in to at least tie things might've been a bit different..this time around it was Pool's and Arsenal's day...

In the premier league in Scotland all teams must have under soil heating to be in it!

Yes, Old Man - as in most other areas of life, they do things sensibly in Scotland.......with the possible exception of that famous Glaswegian delicacy.....fried Mars bars! Seriously though, the point was made on Football Focus/Final Score that a proportion of the huge revenue that English Premier League clubs rake in should be ring fenced for maintaining the quality of the pitch in poor weather. The Fulham V Blackburn game was called off within two hours of the kick-off...with I dare say, many Blackburn fans already having made the 230 mile trip south to the capital.

and they'll have all been up to Blyth the previous Monday. when it was freezing but the Show Went On.

I'm just astonished at how precarious it is in the premiership right now... in top half, just 5 points off the bottom.

Yes, both our teams could yet be part of the endgame - but as long as Spurs are where they are, there is always hope!

And speaking of hope, Chelsea supporters I think have to be stunned....that was some destruction by Fergie's team...(rafa should've kept his mouth shut)...

Tonight's penalty shoot out in Denmark that enabled Manchester City to go through to the EUFA last eight at the expense of Aalborg has left me feeling drained....and not at all well. Rocker... great wins for Liverpool against Real Madrid ..oh and of course, Manchester United .

john ..Shay I'm sure said a prayer to St Patrick and the fellow came (really both!) came throguh for him...great win...Hughes was on his game by getting Shay!..good luck..you'll find out today "Who's Next"...

And 'Pool..they can play when they want to, eh? And I think Gerrard is the straw that stirs the drink. I know there are some greats on the pitch there but for my money he makes the Reds sing...he's the engine. And Rafa's agreement to stay on for 5 years hopefully will get them on their way with some stability at the top for leadership. We'll see.

Oh dearie me. I know it could be worse, but... The rollercoaster that is the lot of the Toon Army appears to have stalled at the bottom.

The pub was packed to the doors and I couldn't get in, the internet coverage stopped at 70 minutes, so I was left with live on the radio - nailbiting stuff.

Troubled times at the Toon.

Keep on shining

Still it was good to see Alan Shearer, one of soccer's genuine nice guys, getting his first point at Stoke. Of course for a truly depressing experience, being at the City of Manchester Stadium on Sunday really did fit the bill. I just hope that Hamburg won't be too harsh on Thursday........after all.......we did lend them The Beatles nearly half a century ago!

Well really Alan right now is in the hot seat. I wish him the best. Tt will be tough. Just wanted to say you guys at Newcastle never seem to have mgrs that stay more thn 3 years recently. ( I see Bobby R was the only fellow for 3+ years back in the 90' and they canned him even when he did well in the Premiership in 04/05). I don't know but I think that revolving door makes it hard to get continuity you know season to season. But I know the St James people wanna win!

Re: Manchester City....starting to read a bio on Joe Corrigan.. his cousin sent me a signed copy...interesting that he almost lost his leg when he was a child...a quick thinking doctor knew what to presecribe to heal it....and he was on his way...

Yes Rocker, Joe Corrigan was a truly great keeper - and would have been England's number one had he not been a contemporary of both Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence. This said he could turn in the occasional eccentric performance - there is quite a famous piece of footage showing Joe taking a goal kick and then a second or two later you see the ball fly past him into the net - an opposing forward had hit it on the volley! That's City for you. Once again, all the best tonight - it's going to be a feast over here this week with 'Pool, United and City all in action on the European front - and all seeking to recover from difficult or impossible positions.
