sorry man city fans...what can you do?...and Pool had one man up but couldn't put one more in...not sure about Adebayor's sending off...didn't look like much...but maybe you guys had a better seat..

Read a piece on the state of the Premiership and people think it's pretty expensive now to support their teams. Some think it may affect loyalty to the clubs. It's been suggested that teams pay a bit for the fans' cost of going to away games. Wow, that would be unheard of here.

Hi Rocker

yes football is very expensive these days IMO, between 83 & 1994 i only missed 12 chelsea games home & away, then it only cost about £5 to get in,back then i remember the day costing around £30 at most, last time i went to chelsea about 7 years ago i spent over £100!

Pity as i was offered a trial with Chelsea when i was 16 but i didnt attend, who knows i could have played for them!

kind regards Jim.

jim... Trial with Chelsea, eh? Not bad not bad, you must've had some good feet there. That first touch was probably good too, eh???.. ....my son is playing at university here...got trained with his clubs by some good English fellows..last one was a fellow from Leeds who at one time worked with Aaron Lennon...noticed that lots of English guys can make a good living here teaching us how to play the game!!...we've improved but I think we got a way to go I think...

Rocker - I remember reading in the Daily Mail (the newspaper which of course is mentioned in Paperback Writer) in 1966 a report about how soccer was really catching on in America. It began with the rather bold prediction that the USA would win the World Cup in 1974! Mind you even then, no one would have believed that the States were destined to host that same cup in 1994...or that we would see American players in our top flight in 2008.

Going back to ticket prices, Chelsea have been notorious for really high prices in recent times - and of course, there is always a waiting list for Manchester United. For my seasoncard at Manchester City, I paid a very reasonable £520. However, I shall have to miss the Boxing Day clash against Hull as I shall be with all my family down in Winchester then.

Last Saturday, a mate of mine rang me to ask if I wanted to accompany his family to see Oldham Athletic against Leyton Orient - that was a fascinating experience.....less than 7000 in attendance - but with much more noise and atmosphere than we have have been getting at City of late!

john..Yes, it took a while and a few Americans are good enough to play in the Premiership. Some on the pitch and some in goal. But if more are to get there the US has to do alot more especially in getting the kids at younger ages. Most of our guys play football, basketball and baseball. We don't have that passion that exists for the game in Europe you know? As you know we didn't do very well in that last World Cup. We have a way to go I think!

And I think that when I go back and visit I need to get tix to the kind of game you're describing. That's football!

and the matter of high ticket prices....I could understand how some fans might feel since the tix appear exorbitant. Chelsea can get those prices because they're in London but what about the supporters who are loyal but don't have the income to take in those games? They probably seeth since they figure non-supporters getin because they're on somebody else's tab with business for example. I guess that's what Keane was referring to with his prawn sandwich bit, no? What happened to eating only chips at a game?????...

Yes Rocker - I think that the Americans have a much more balanced approach to sport than we do. In most European countries, soccer seems to monopolise the national consciousness to the extent that depression tends to set in if things are not going well internationally - this is perhaps even more the case in Latin America... and inceasingly in the Far East as well. When I was in Japan last year, everyone wanted to know about Manchester United.

Right, and you know how much Man U promote themselves all over the place. I think they probably were the first to change the marketing of English clubs. And they're like the Yanks over here with loads and loads of moolah to get anybody they want.

I agree on the 'depression" at times if teams don't do well internationally as you note. Maybe that happens to England? I've noticed that the country puts a great deal of pressure on the national team to win and when they don't well........

And traditionally Christmas kind of gears up the league as to how are in place to win the top spot. It's usually a horse race. I like your prediction.......but you know things can happen. Torres is out with a hamstring problem. Hopefully, he'll be back but what if he hurts it again. Will Pool be resilent? So far so good. And even Benitez acknowledges that somebody will have to mess up for Pool to win the title or any of the other 3. Arsenal looks like they're showing cracks first!

Tough for Man City. All that money but it's not showing up in results. Maybe the team needs to time to gel and take it all in!

Hi rocker
Yeah i wasnt a bad player, bloody lazing tho lol, thats why i prob did'nt make it!
Had trials with Reading,Oxford UTD,Luton town, few people that i played with went on to better things, one played for Coventry City & another played for England schoolboys against Germany at Wembley so that was cool.

My only brush with anything good was scoring a goal against Watford in a 7-2 friendy defeat in front of a few thousand people.

kind regards Jim.

heh heh "bloody lazing"..well it takes a certain kind of guy to be in the Premiership, eh?...Remember that guy Petit? He said the league had a bunch of "criminals"!! You know I probably believe him. I sure know you have to eyes in the back of yer head if you want survive in that high stakes game!

hey that's a nice memory to have playing in the big time..wish I can say it for myself!.. I came to the game late and just as a fan..when I was growing up we US guys didn't play "soccer"....it was really considered an immigrant's game...to tell you the truth it's come a long way since then...at least it's being played on the grass roots level...

Congratulations to Droylsden who last night eliminated league side Chesterfield from the FA Cup after a 2-1 win....and at the fourth attempt! There is just one problem - I've just seen it on the news that Sean Newton (the scorer of the two goals) should have been serving a supension - the FA are apparently going to rule on this on December 29...........things may not turn out quite so well for Bob Cratchet after all!! Scroooooooge!

9,000 Plymouth fans will invade North London tomorrow afternoon (and I shall be one of them!). We're hoping for a shock but the way we're playing at the moment it would be a massive shock! You've gotta love FA Cup 3rd round weekend though. It certainly reminds people that there are teams outisde of the Premiership!

COME ON YOU GREENS

This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....

Ok, so we were well beaten by Arsenal yesterday...3-1...but it could've been 10-1 They were a very classy team and at times it looked like a training match for Arsenal!

All in all though it was a decent day out for Plymouth Argyle fans and we most definitely made a lot more noise than the Arsenal fans, but they're in the 4th round of the cup and we're not!!

I feel I should now leave this thread as I've imposed enough with my non-premier league rantings!!

This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....
