Spencer Dryden quit the Airplane because of the aftermath (his own turmoil inside) of Altamont. He has said that he did not want to play Altamont and had bad vibes about the concert. That is confirmed by others that he spoke of those feelings days before the tragedy that was Altamont.

Ironically, the Stones were initially blamed for that Hell's Angels biker hiring for security, & subsequent violence. It was supposed to be a peace & love fest just like Woodstock. They knew nothing about the hiring. In fact the Altamont venue was a last minute booking after the chosen site fell through, along with the poor last minute choice for security. Keef and the Stones weren't even aware of the killing and violence until the next day at their hotel room. Never touch a Hell's Angel's bike...or even look at it!! To the Stones, it just looked like another of the hundreds of riots surrounding their concerts for the last 6 years....girls fainting, or throwing themselves onstage....jealous boyfriends wanting to beat up a Stone....!

When we heard the news back then, it was-- oh my god!, the Stones are such creeps for hiring the bikers, and thereby condoning the violence...essentially. Those were the first details we got from the media.

It was a dark day for the Flower Children...enter the jaded disco generation! and down with hippies and psychedelia! What a bummer!!

Some actually believed some of the events around that time were of some sort of celestial origin and were Karmic retribution for the hippie generation's previous few years of frollicking carelessly on the wings of love, music, and LSD.The deaths of Brian Jones,Jimi Hendrix,Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison were all actually considered by some then AND now to be part of some kind of divine intervention plan revolving around a certain alignment of the stars and the "Age of Aquarius".The Beatles are also dragged into the mire through their bizarre affiliation with the Charles Manson engineered Tate-LaBianca homocides and the Paul is Dead hoopla that began circulating a couple of months before Altamont.I hardly subscribe here, but who doesn't get a half a fun spook from these things of the "play that backwards and hear a message" variety?Turn me on dead man, turn me on dead man, turn me on dead man.....

I was at Altamont. My favorite memories are the Flying Burrito Brothers, my days hitch-hiking up there and staying with friends in the haight-ashbuy area, learning where the new festival site is, then to Altamont , sure.... ****ing stupid violent Hells Angels jerks , and also very good freakin' music and freaky drugs and groovy life. My opinion, The Rolling Stones, (at that time), and the Hells Angels = BAD ****.

...what the world needs now...

Great snappy tune with pop and sparkle.
Ringo at his best.
Love the banter, "Rock on George one time for Ringo"

Love that tune, markk.

Here is a wonderful live set from Ringo...one of my favorite post-Beatle songs of all time....2009.

I remember an interview on the radio in '72 I believe...and they asked which album Ringo would recommend for Christmas. His own, he said, and Johnny's IMAGINE, but Georgie's All Things Must Pass especially. What a time for music still.....all three for Christmans!!!

It Don't Come Easy...never onan album tiil Best Of....get up and dance!!!
