Bo Diddley -- The Definitive Collection on CD because my turntable is broken. On top of everything else, what comes through is what a good-natured cuss he must have been. Everything is shot through with good-natured humor. And when he wanted to he could sing pretty, too. |

Guess it's not to everyone's taste here, but today have bought, and loving, 'Modernity Killed Every Night' by The Wolfmen http://www.myspace.com/thewolfmen
Totally different, yesterday I got 'Provisions' by Giant Sand. Another great record by Howe Gelb's band. http://www.myspace.com/giantsand |

Gandalf Murphy & the Slambovian Circus of Dreams' new album: The Great Unravel.
Saw them at the Rhythm Festival at the weekend and they would have a strong claim to being the best band of the whole festival - certainly gave Jefferson Starship and Quicksilver Messenger Service a run for their money IMHO. The album is indeed excellent, as is the other album I bought of theirs: Flapjacks In The Sky. Highly reccomended! |

Don't know these guys, NickR. Just that they are a '68 psych band from the UK. I love KAK, especially 'Electric Sailor' & ...'Lemonade Kid'....great 60's psych.

Following on from the above post... the Matthew Sweet album is absolute rubbish. I loved his earlier stuff but this is just awful. It's hard to describe (maybe, self indulgent power pop) but I just hate it. I tried to listen to it last night, but just had to take it off half way through, I couldn't take anymore!! |

That's tough to be so disappointed in new music that you've anticipated in the post. Hope some of the others made up for it!

Hey Caryne- Before you write Matthew Sweet off for keeps,(and I'll confess that I haven't liked everything he's done) have you heard the collaborative CD he released with Susanna Hoffs called "Under the Covers?" Not surprisingly, all covers, but pretty tastefully chosen and rendered. There are some You-Tube videos available of some of this material should you feel like checking it out... |

It happens sometimes, guess I should listen before I buy? The thing is I really am fond of his earlier stuff but this just wasn't as good at all, unlistenable in fact. Taught me a lesson that you can't rely on any artist to make every album good |

I didn't say I was going to write him off, I own lots of stuff by him that I love, after all. Yes I have the CD with Susanna Hoffs, it's not bad. |
