Syd, bless him...his work with the early Floyd has never lost its power. I never saw Syd with the band, but I caught a rare appearance that he made at Olympia in London in the early 70s. He nervously poked his head from behind a curtain to check out the audience, then came out and sang a few songs. I still remeMber it all so clearly. For someone in Syd's condition, I guess that 60 is not a bad age to pass over. Love, John E

Yep, really sad, the barrett-era floyd was fantastic. His work opened my mind to a whole new type of music.

This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....

Bless him - Wherever he might be right now.
I hope he'll come back as a musician once again.

I posted some comments with my list of greatest psychedelic songs, but to repeat here, I think Syd captured the moment of psychedelia better than anyone. I am sad for his loss, but also because so few people today even know why he's considered a genius. Hopefully, a few curious kids will find The Piper At The Gates of Dawn, or Relics, or Past Masters, and hear those glorious songs and get something out of it. Some of the best tracks were the non-LP singles that are now hard to find: "Candy and a Currant Bun", "It would Be So Nice", "Apples and Oranges". Unfortunately, reckless drug use ruined him, but when he had it, he really had it. RIP brother..........

Just booked this one, think it only started booking yesterday:

Syd Barrett
Madcap's Last Laugh
10 May 2007 / 19:30
Barbican Hall, London

An evening in homage to the eccentric genius of Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett whose creative legacy and quintessential English vocal delivery has proven remarkably influential.

Barrett was an obscure figure whose life-long struggle with mental illness shortened his creative period in music to only 7 years, however during that short time such classics as Arnold Layne and See Emily Play and Floyds first album The Piper at The Gates of Dawn were all written and recorded.

Recently David Bowie, Bobby Gillespie, Brian Eno and Jimmy Page have all paid personal tribute to the 'Crazy Diamond'. This special event curated with Barrett's first producer Joe Boyd features many special guests performing Syd’s songs as well as rare film footage, lighting effects and spoken word.
