Stackridge: A Victory For Common Sense. Not due out till tomorrow, but thanks to the band and their record company, my signed pre-ordered copy arrived yesterday morning and has taken up residence in the CD player. Much more contemporary sounding than previous 70s efforts, it comes very highly recommended by not just me: Mojo and The Independent both gave it 4/5.
Check out some of the samples at http://www.heliumrecords.co.uk/releases/a-victory-for-common-sense.php then pop along to amazon, who have it for less than nine quid, or if you want your copy signed after what I guarantee will be a great gig, they are playing in the Bush Hall in London on Thursday or Bath next week.
(No, I have nothing to do with the band, but some of the tunes on it are just so damned good!!)

I'm listening to anything/everything by Tandy at the moment, as I'll be seeing Mike Ferrio at the Lakeside Lounge in NYC on Aug 6th. |

I have the Tito & Tarantula CD," Tarantism" (1997). Tito Larriva is good. I saw Tito's early punk days in The Plugs here in L.A.

I think "Andalucia" is from 1999 & is also really great. Some tracks remind me of Velvet Underground and Nico......very 60's grunge punk rock psych sound with a contemporary edge!

Zappa...live "Muffin Man" "Some people like cupcakes better......"
Well...all of "Strictly Commercial"
I can best describe Zappa as having been the most intelligently, measured, insane genius of the rock world or any world.

The Duckworth Lewis Method... new side project by Neil Hannon (Divine Comedy). All the songs are about cricket, and I hate cricket, but they are such good pop songs they are still very enjoyable. |
