mikep..sounds minimalist.... intriguing though I don't like to read "depressing" and "sad" in the reviews....but anyway sounds like it needs a checking out....

Best not to file Low under 'd+s', Rocker - there's a lot more to them than that... and some of the very best female vocals you'll hear. Their most conventional and 'rockiest' album is 'The Great Destroyer' Great Youngish guitar.

The Golden Dawn - Texas Medicine
it's finally out, independently released, the almost 40-year follow-up to their 1968 Power Plant LP. Great disc, you can hear a couple from it on their myspace www.myspace.com/originalgoldendawn

You steel guitar lovers will like it for sure. And Toni Price does a great duet with George Kinney on the other song.

Here here!
Just picked up One Nation Under a Groove the other day (at the just-about-to-hit-the-ground Tower Records), one of few I had not heard much. I'm with Cal Jam though, Maggot Brain is probably my favorite.

Massive, massive P-Funk fan, Alone Again. Lately been listening to Let's Take It To the Stage and their odds n' sodds, Tales of Kidd Funkadelic. Funktastic. Also Funkadelic vs. The Placebo Syndrome. "Oh, there's so much sin-drooome, babeee!"

Hazel's solo album was re-released recently. I read some reviews raving about it, but I think it was a limited edition which is probably sold out now. I was feeling skint so I didn't get it. Sigh. 'Maggot Brain' - yum.

I've got a worn cassette tape of Hazel's solo record (Games, Dames, and Guitar Thangs.) It's got an absolutely brilliant cover of California Dreamin'. I actually saw an import cd at Tower a couple of months ago (25% off.) Next day when I came to get it....gone, daddy gone.

Cheer up Michael, it might be re-released again in another ten years!

Currently playing:
'Trojan Dub Massive: Chapter Two' . Bill Laswell's been let loose in the Trojan vaults and given freedom to compile, re-master, re-engineer and enhance King Tubby, Perry etc. Seriously good bassy dub.
I also really recommend Laswell's treatment of Bob Marley, 'Dreams of Freedom'. Helps the time slip nicely by.
