I totally agree about the Stones' early albums - for me, their first remains one of their best. Meanwhile, going throuigh a box of old cassette tapes, I came across Barclay James Harvest "Everyone is Everybody Else", truly excellent British prog rock of the period - I've now bought the CD. From the same box, Camel with "Music Inspired by The Snow Goose" - some good stuff though a bit self indulgent and marred from time to time by repetition. Also frequently on the CD player, the great Tom Waits and "Alice" - much more accessible (listenable?) than some of Tom's other recent works. Am also becoming acquainted with Steve Earle's "The Revolution Starts - Now" and "Jerusalem" - the lyrics of the title track from the latter seem particularly appropriate just now. |

Im listening to the new sleepy jackson album, its called 'personality - one was a spider one was a bird'. Its quite cool, psychedelic and for me it seems to have a beach boy sound to it.
This is the time and this is the time and it is time, time, time, time, time, time, time.....

Listening to a self made collection of Sandy Denny solo/fairport songs.Just finished the "No more sad refrains" Denny biography by Clinton Heylin, its so sad reading about her low self esteem of her musical ability-She had this angel like voice and she never understood what great artist she was- hopefully there IS a God then she will know better, jamming with Billie and Janis up there, rest in peace Sandy!! |

Peter Gabriel - 'Passion'(Remastered) This is the OST of Scorsese's 'Last Temptation Of Christ', tweaked and amended. Twenty year old music that holds up very well - absorbing, uplifting, profound .. and yes, if you're with someone close, put this on. Does what it says on the tin. |

MikeP, Gabriel's Passion is on of my fave comps. The percussion and the eerie choir, the Middle Eastern dirge and rapture, a feast for the senses. He's a far out cat, isn't he. |

Joe Byrd & the Field Hippies - American Metaphysical Circus ('69) ..another recent vinyl re-ish from Columbia Records. !wOw! I see it really is the hidden classic they say it is (every review on amazon gave it 5*). Another cool thing about it is that the superfine cover art is the work of Peter Schaumann--the fellow who gave us the back cover of a record called "Four Sail." |

Predictably: LOVE STORY, currently ending of 'You Set.....' and how incredibly apt the lyrics to the last verse.....and despite his health worries when he wrote that, AL still had another 38 years to go!
Recently enjoyed stuff, though; The Decemberists Picaresque, Gallon Drunk, Gretchen Hofner, Marjorie Fair and loads of Costello/Cave (as I complete the collections; most only £5 GBP).
PS some great recs here; TA. |
