In Denmark he was greater than Queen Margrethe (that is actually a cool Queen even for us against monarchy). I love their native language songs too. I don't always warm to languages I don't understand in music, but any Scandinavian country's language is especially close to me. Raised in Minnesota, we have a rich heritage in my family dating way back...Snowbergs, Swansons, from towns like Osakis settled in the narrows between two beautiful clear lakes, Ada, Fergus Falls, and Lindstrom, MN, and my great aunt & uncless Ida and Ole, Auggie and Hanna. Long passed, but cherished memories. Famous novelist Leif Enger is from Osakis. And of course Norseman (from Iceland) Leif Erickson is said to have discovered Minnesota long before the Europeans.
A very strong connection to Norway and Sweden, Iceland and Denmark in my family history.

Cool LK! I have some relatives in Dakota, have only met them one time when I was was around 10 years old when they were visiting my grand parents.
Was a massive imigration to America from Norway and the other Scandinavian countries from around 1850 to 1900.
From the west coast of Norway were Im from I will guess 80 prosent have relatives in the US.
Have you seen the Cohen brothers movie Fargo btw? Such a great movie, was a mega success in Norway, guess it reminded us of people in the small towns and villages in Norway,, of course stereotypied but in a warm and funny way. And also funny to hear these norwegian influenced swearwords like: Heck!

Another great soundtrack is Warren Ellis and Nick Caves music to the assassination of Jesse James. Liked the movie, but its one of this rare moments when the music is even better than the movie. The melody starting at 5.44 is one of my favourites, sounds like a mix between Beau Brummels Magic hollow and ennio Morricone..

When Blackmore is praised in music magazines, almost without exceptions only his pioneering neo classical guitar solos are praised, like highway Star, Burn and solos in Child in Time.

Right. Not a huge fan nowadays with his wife on vocals, dressed up like minstrels of the 16th century. Prog/baroque?

Agree LK, Dont like her voice, not awful but just one of many without any special to it.
And Ritchie has lost much of his creativity sadly. Think it may be that he is lost in that 16th century folk melody style. Greatly hinted by on the first Rainbow albums with Dio, but then there was so much more also in his guitar playing,hard rock,psychedelia, blues,classical.. |

Wring that neck is sort of Deep Purples Revalation. . I normally skip the studio version, its a pretty monotone boring instrumental melody. But live its quite another story! Like here from 1969, only 25 minutes long unfortunally.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqQL8XSzaAw
One of my favourite visual parts is at around 6.30 when Jon Lord takes a solo and Roger Glover stands there in the background,almost like a fan in the audience, so clearly listening and curious of where Jon Lord is going this time.
