I'll never forget one of my friends way way back who said to me one day hey you've got to hear this guy. I said who. He said a guy named Springsteen. I said any good? He said yeah. Fair enough. |

The Clientele, a British band with a following here in the States. Their favorite song writer is Arthur Lee. Article in the L.A. Times, today.

Was listening to the first Man album this morning in teh car and talk about bad timing: I heard lunchtime Micky Jones had died. |

Donovan- a unique artist that did many shades of music, rock, folk, psychedelic.
Canned Heat- Perhaps the premiere woodstock song, Going up the Country, and some good boogie too.
Gary US Bonds- A lot of fire here. |

Amd I'm in Gary B's era too...picked up Buddy Holly's "Memorial" record along with a great Texan rock'n'roll band Bobby Fuller Four. Those country boys played some pretty good music. |

"the byrds live at the filmore-1969" . clarance white's use of the "string-bender' gave his guitar a pedal-steel like quality, and the musicianship is solid.

Yeah, lately I've going back to the roots of rock checking out the music..who knows where rock could've gone if Holly, Valens and JP Richardson only took the bus to their enxt gig? |

The spot where the "day the music died" is just a couple hours from here and there is always a big write up in the Des Moines Register every year and some bug name tribute shows at a casino near by. The spot is still in the middle of a corn field, but is well marked with a large plaque.

"lets go, lets go, lets go, little darlin"
to quote Richie Valens
Haven't gotten the most recent (6cd!) Buddy compilation (Not fade away) though I do have the 2 releases that came out on the Feb 3rd crash date last year (50 years ago.. sigh)
had to get them just for the final New York apartment tapes
"Put my foot right down" is a fave. I fear that "Dearest" may be too close sounding to other of his songs to be "original" though! |

lk..where you ever there? I figure if I'm out near there I should go by just out of respect for them. Maybe one day.
joe..And I alsoI picked up some of Valens' music recently...always loved his hits like La Bamba (what guitars!) and Donna...
It's funny how we're influenced by what we hear way back. Do you guys know why you like the music you do???? For me listening to bands like Holly and the Crickets and Bobby Fuller 4 starts the essence of what I gravitate to in rock. I guessIi just like those simple melodies and lyrics with drums and strat or telecaster guitar. yep it's "simple rocker"... |

No, I'm embarrassed to say...too much happening, I guess. But it's always in my heart...the day the music died. And I will put on Don's great tribute song in honor of the day and the men.
I'm also an hour fron the "field fo dreams"..still a big draw here...haven't been there either! Two icons for different reasons!
I have a first press, rare Richie Valens...his first and only LP while alive! What a beautiful album cover! And those great and influential songs!
