The extras look excellent, with commentary by Paul and new footage - even Traffic!

I don't see Let It Be surfacing any time soon (officially) - I have it on dvd (from laserdisc, apparently; the video quality is better than the Magnetic Video vhs release) and its well worth checking out. And the soundtrack is amazing, as you well know

(Critical opinion of Let It Be seems to be similar to that suffered by Loves Four Sail, which wasn't a bad album as all but followed the best album by the group. Abbey Road coming before, well, it was gonna be hard to live up to!

There certainly is a great deal of validity in the theory that "Let it Be" may have been under rated due to the position of release in the Fabs' catalog (being after "Abbey Road").Very insightful as a matter of fact,Joe.But also a bit of a shame due to the fact that every Beatles album is nothing less than a thorough lesson in how to write hit tunes.Even "Beatles For Sale" and its American counterpart "Beatles '65" are widely considered to be the nadir of the foursomes fab career despite the fact that in actuality these sets contain many classic gems(Particularly "I Feel Fine" and "She's A Woman" from the December 1964 American Capitol release).Likewise,"Let It Be" boasts several lost classics such as "I've Got A Feeling" and George Harrison's highly overlooked "I Me Mine".It is unfair to compare "Let It Be" with other recordings of theirs due to the fact that not only did the Beatles just get through with the mammoth White Album collection of tunes, but the very reecording itself was duly marred by blows to the bands group dynamic via internal strife largely caused by John Lennon's insistence that Yoko Ono spend every moment of every day with him, including his time his time in the studio. Some were amazed that the project(originally titled "Let It Be" and twelve other songs in homage to their first British album "Please PLease Me") was even released in any palpable form considering the troubles Phil Spector had in plowing through over a hundred hours of tape to create SOMETHING with SOME KIND of creative flow. All in all,a fine work that deserves mention as one of it's year's best.

I was always surprised that the dvd of Let It Be didn't come out at the same time as Let It Be Naked; it seemed a good time for it!

Well there's just that little matter of Sir Paul wanting to block "Let It Be"'s release in dvd format because of the scene where you can see and hear him and George Harrison having a bit of a row over a guitar lick.He doesn't want that scene so widely distributed in tribute to Harrison's memory.Unfortunately for him(but not so for fans),the release will likely happen because it's simply out of Paul's hands. He doesn't own the rights to the film or even the music. It would seem far fetched to believe that whatever film company owns the piece along with the owners of the song catalog would miss out on the obvious fortune that would be involved with its release due to McCartney's gripes about it.Personally,I think ol' Macca is being a bit over the top here. That argument scene from the movie SHOULD be viewed by Beatle freaks because it was all part of the Fabs' usually highly touted creative process.Just like in ANY relationship, sometimes a little rain must fall....

I don't know .. I don't see Paul & Ringo as blocking the film's release coming out (though that was reported)

Perhaps its just laziness - who wants to be dealing with Yoko to get something released

Let It Be is a superb album, it really is. The 2009 remaster just sounds great and I don't get why it was dissed at the time. The Beatles only cut one sub par album (Yellow Submarine) and that was only because there was a lack of new songs on it!

Beatles for Sale is absolutely wonderful. Any other band would love to have cuts like Feel Fine and What You're Doing in their repertoire

the book on Let It Be (The Let It Be Disaster) makes the interesting point that it was due to JOHN not being communicative with the rest of the band caused George's walkout after the first weeks at the dismal Twickenham Studios, so the film became about the band falling apart..

I don't know what John was thinking bringing the wife in to the studio and having her hospital bed in Studio 2. Paul must've been furious, because it must've seemed his friend didn't give a toss about the band anymore

as to whats holding up Let It Be.. yeah, its the one thing of theirs that hasn't seen issue yet. So much other stuff has turned up on DVD by now I'm sure (Beatles at Washington, Beatles at Shea - ABC TV, The Beatles Story, Tragical History Tour) that it really is surprising that it didn't come out

Some libraries do have the old Magnetic video release from 1981 (at least mine does) but it does seem that its taking a while! That Magical Mystery Tour should see release to Blu Ray before Let It Be.. Yikes!

Both "Mystery Tour" and "Let It Be" are classic just based on individual scenes from both."Tour" garners cult classic honors just for the "I Am The Walrus" sequence alone just as the rooftop concert from "Let it Be" is one of the ten most famous rock and roll live performances ever.(Along with Shea Stadium '65 and their initial shot at "The Ed Sullivan Show" on February 9,1964)
