the worst Beatles track is probably "If you've got trouble" which doesn't seem to have turned up on any album or B side! (and thank CHRIST! |

I think "If You Got Trouble" was on Anthology 2.I think it was intended for the album and or the "Help!" movie soundtrack.I find this track and George Harrison's "Not Guilty" from the White Album sessions to be two nice tracks despite the fact that the Fabs' didn't release either while the Beatles were still together.Particularly "Not Guilty".I really dig it.It's on Anthology 3 I think. |

If you've Got Troubles is good and I would never say terrible...it's just in the fun Ringo style that we loved. Early 60's rock style.

I just think that it's great that the Fabs cut some tracks that were suited to Ringo's limited vocal range. |

I agree...(it's not THAT bad, Joe). But obviously the Beatles didn't think it was good enough either.
Ringo turned out to have a great talent for picking well suited and great covers for his solo lps, AND writing some classic tunes himself!

I remember reading in around 1971, an interview with Ringo in a UK music mag. He was asked about all the unreleased Beatles songs. He answered that there probably about thirty in total - and that they had hadn't been released because of The Beatles' pride in the quality of their own music. I suppose that when the Anthology CDs appeared during the mid 90s (in part to counter the bootleg market) this fine principle was to a certain extent, compromised. But I think that during the period 1962-70, The Beatles knew what they were doing when they chose to release only the very best of what they had recorded.

And some comments about the anthols....
"A guy from Capitol Records came to see me and asked if I would allow them to put out an album of John's outtakes. After listening to them, I realized they were just too unfinished and raw for people to hear. They were mostly rehearsals and outtakes, anyway...John always told me to get a lawyer to try and get the Beatles' master tapes back, so that we could burn them. He was afraid someone would remix the outtakes and put them out after we died."
--Yoko Ono, 1984
As one local musician said minutes after hearing the debut of "Free as a Bird," the first "new" Beatles song in 25 years, if you love the song or hate it, you're right. It's at once exhilarating to hear the band "back together" and altogether sickening, like watching someone make love to a dead corpse. For something so simple and so thin, it's a song that exists alone within the continuum--a Beatles song we'll soon grow tired of, but one that will fascinate and confound us for years.

The Sheridan stuff is interesting - Time/Life actually put out a nice 2CD package of the complete sessions (1959?) that the "Beat Brothers" cut with Tony Sheridan in Germany
"My Bonnie" is of interest of course because it called the group to the attention of Brian Epstein, otherwise they would have gotten nowhere and would have languished in Liverpool |
