Jackson Browne at 45! I can't go along with that, maybe BEFORE U2 would work for me. Where's Arthur? People just don't know!!
I "know," E. Burdon, he didn't write alot (alone) but man can he intrepret those lyrics. Is Robert Johnson on the list? Man, judges, get back to where you once belonged. Also, don't think Jagger and Richards should have been lumped together. I'm old.

Cheers! Yeah Burden was a master interpreter more than songwriter.
But this is Living Songwriters, leerob. So no Arthur OR RObert Johnson. or Lennon....but all time 20th Century songwriters would be a LIST!

| Reasonable but there are always controversies with these things.Especially in their top tens.I still think Prince is a bit overrated and I know it may due to personal sentiment but I would like to have seen David Gates of Bread SOMEWHERE here.In terms of pure lyrical talent,yes I would go with Bob Dylan,but since the element of melody is really what makes the greats so timeless,I'd have to go with McCartney for a personal number one.Where are Leiber/Stoller?Did one of them pass on eliminating their eligibility.One thing's for sure,I'm duly envious of the wonderful gifts of the many on this list with whose work I'm familiar.I tried my hand at the craft a few times and brother,its hard to even write a BAD original! |

| OOpps!Just saw Leiber/Stoller in the thirties after complaining they weren't there.My apologies to Paste.By the way what is Paste magazine?I mean the format.Never heard of it.And LK,as far as Mike Nesmith,he suffers from the same fate George Harrison suffered from.His talents have been overshadowed by the Monkee thing just as Harrison's gifts were upstaged by Lennon/McCartney. |

| Hwo about John Denver?I was warching a PBS special,maybe you've seen it "John Denver:A Song's Best Friend".Anyway I'm watching him perform live and paying attention tohis fingering on the fretboard.WOW!Now THIS man really KNEW how to put a piece together.Intricate chord changes and finger picking made for a catalog that is sure to delight for generations to come.Good stuff. |
