Not that far, a five minute bus ride (though there won't be a bus if the gig finishes late ), about a twenty minute walk, if that.

The Bierkeller isn't a particularly great venue, I agree that Fiddlers over in Bedminster would be far better for Love to play at... seems to me that venue is very under-used. They really should put more on there.

Still, looking forward to the chance to see Love again, even better that it should fall in the middle of a week I've already booked off from work!

I agree with you about The Fiddlers, lovely venue and very under used, Love would have been good there. I saw Jah Wobble there just before Xmas and am seeing American Music Club there on Wednesday.

Let us know if they're any good! Going to see them at Exeter Phoenix a week on Sunday.

Very good actually, played a mixture of old and new stuff, very relaxed, very funny (Mark Eitzel has a nice line in between songs chat) and, obviously, all very at ease together. A band well worth catching.

The Fiddlers is OK but its not very central .Its also not big enough for a love gig. The old Granery would have been though. Unfortunatly us Bristolians have suffered greatly at the hands of developers and have lost countless great venues .
Having seen hundreds of bands over the the years one thing is for certain. If a gig is a good oneyou remember it weeks, years later and not[unless you are a girly] the dirty floor, ashtrays, bogs etc.
Of course if you feel particularly vitriollic about a venue you can always STAY AT HOME.

Well, we shall see by the turn out if the Fiddlers would be big enough for a Love gig, I hope it sells but not sure...as for the Fiddlers being 'out of the way' since when has that stopped Love? This band played in Brecon!! And I've been to many packed, sold out gigs at the Fiddlers, so doesn't seem to stop the audience either. As for your rather sexist(homophobic??) comment about only a 'girly' being worried about the fact that the place is filthy...well, the eight people I know already who aren't going are all men BUT it's not just the filth that puts them off, it's the fact that the venue is ****e for sound and visuals..surely important for any gig?
I shall be going to see my friends there and support a band I love, I shall be at other venues for a good sound

I was joking about the state of the place.
It has always been spotless. Seen many good acts there . Keep away from the pillors and you get a decent view. loves sound engineer gets his act together and we all go home happy.
What worries me is the fact that your comments would probably put
a number of people off who would otherwise enjoy a great Love gig.
Now cheer up and no sulking at the bar!

What worries me is that you (as someone who has never, so it seems posted here before) obviously have an ulterior motive for your posting. Everyone(who has ever been there) knows the place is filthy...that goes without saying. The venue also has a terrible reputation, and not just in Bristol, for sound and visuals (and it's not just the pillars, the stage is too low for anyone who isn't six feet tall and/or standing at the front to get a good view) I am just being honest...as for you, I'm not so sure.

I posted because I feel strongly about one persons veiwpoint. I don't
see anybody here other than Rich Hall backing you up on this one.
We should be pleased to see Love for a forth time in our city, the
guys obviously have a good time .

Maybe no-one else is backing me up because no-one else is from Bristol??? This is just a daft discussion, the place is a dump in every way, there's nothing else to add. Course a great band will be great anywhere, we all know that...I just wish they were playing somewhere decent where I could hear them at their best. No-one is doubting they must enjoy coming to Bristol, but, as you will know, they havn't played this venue before so they, obviously, aren't in a position to comment themselves. Any further discussion with you on this would be repeating myself.

Here we go again......for those of you who are relatively new to this board, be aware that Caryne is rather contentious. While the general vibe of this board is super friendly and easy going, Caryne often sprays vinegar at those whose views don't conform to hers. It's not a major thing, but just kind of acts as a downer so I try to stay out of entanglements with her.

So why aren't you then?

There's nothing more to add on the Bierkeller thing...anyone who goes there will see for themselves.
