Presumably, he was referring to Don Conka, who died about 2 months ago (think it was just before his tour with The Zombies) |

Allan you put it well. HV Here's a little background Don Conka died of a drug overdose a couple of months back. As I understand it, Arthur did take it very hard. He was one of LOVES original drummers. And there are other heartaches he has had to endure the past few weeks. He mentioned his girlfriend left also. No one here is beating up on Arthur. But let's take the icon, star, out of the picture for a minute. Have you ever woken up several times a night to see if your loved one was stll breathing? Have you ever experienced the pain of watching someone you love kill themselves before you eyes? Slowly, day by day? The pain and helplessness is awful. The people on this board truly love Arthur and that's why these posts are so sad at this time. Go back and read some of the other posts, in brighter days and you will see he is loved in both good and bad times. I will treasure every concert I have seen, both the good and the bad. But, I want to see him again. Fit and well. As I said before, My hope, is someone can get him into rehab and help him before something terrible happens. And no it was not three days before the tickets went back on sale, though Ticketmaster and the Coach House did show the concert cancelled for a few days. No one is putting him down. But no one wants him to die either. For those of you who pray now is the time. If we weren't practicing luv here, everyone wouldn't be so concerned. These fans support Arthur through the good and the bad and if that's not LOVE I don't know what is. For an official statement you only need to read Mike's Diary. I will always be a LOVE fan, and Johnny Echols fan, and especially a Mike Randle and Baby Lemonade Fan. So much talent. I am praying for Arthur every day. I don't know what else to do. I would be feeling the same sadness for anyone battling an addiction. He has family, friends, who are probably worried sick not because he is Arthur Lee of LOVE but a man who has people who love him, just like all of us have people who love us. I hope someone gives him the true gift of LOVE over the holidays and tries to get him the help he needs.

Arthur is home recuperating. He's mentally sound, financially stable and just needs some healing time. He appreciates your kind prayers, but don't worry too much, he'll be fine. He understands that the Coach House show was dismal and apologetic for disappointing his fans, but he's bounced back before and he'll be back again. So don't write him off yet. He's been through a lot worse than this setback! As for the future of "Love", well, we didn't discuss that, but I'm hopeful that their problems will be worked out. |

jazmaan, thank you for the update. I am glad to hear Arthur is doing ok.
One question, when you say he is recuperating, could you explain from what?
Was there an injury or something else?
If it is a private matter, I certainly understand and don't mean to intrude. |

Thanks Jazmaan, for letting us know about Arthur's situation. Please thank him for the seventeen sensational concerts that I've seen give in recent times, and wish him a peaceful and healing Christmas. Love on Earth Must Be Again, John E P.S. Perhaps he can add "Doggone" to his set-list! (but it would be hard to find a better singing group than Baby Lemonade!). |

This is good to hear, good to hear, great to hear, but it does get tiresome waiting and hoping.
LOVE to all |

I broke my first bone a few hours before the show and missed the whole thing. I was laying in a hospital bed with a morphine drip when I received my review of the show. I was taking friends including two people in the music industry who have never seen Love. They didn't want to go without me so I guess God has a plan. |

I WAS SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THE COACH HOUSE AFFAIR.I'M SURE AS HELL AM GLAD I DIDN'T DRIVE DOWN FROM SAN FRANCISCO LIKE I USUALLY DO.I SAW THE 1ST NIGHT AT SPACELAND A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO AND WITNESSED FIRST-HAND WHAT ARTHUR IS CAPABLE OF.I'M TORN BETWEEN BEING ANGRY AT HIM AND BEING SCARED TO DEATH THAT HE'S GONNA DIE OR END UP BACK IN JAIL.HIS BAND DESERVES A MEDAL FOR ENDURING SOME OF ARTHUR'S ANTICS.I SAW HIM AT BIMBO'S 2 YEARS AGO AND HE WAS A LITTLE OUT OF IT THAT NIGHT BUT NOTHING LIKE THE AFORE MENTIONED SPACELAND SHOW. I SAW THW FILLMORE SHOW WHERE HE WAS COMPLAINING OF A LEG INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDS THAT AFFECTED HIS VOICE AND TIRED HIM OUT. THAT FOLLOWING DECEMBER I DROVE DOWN TO THE ANAHEIM HOUSE OF BLUES AND WITNESSED A SPLENDID SHOW.I ATTENDED THAT BENEFIT HE DID AT THE KNITTING FACTORY (THAT PLACE NEEDS AN AIR CONDITIONER REAL BAD!)AND HE KEPT HIS COOL.BUT THE HOUSE OF BLUES IN WEST HOLLYWOOD WAS HIS GREATEST SHOW IN MY BOOK!!WHAT A SHOW!!THE LAST 2 TIMES AT THE GREAT AMERICAN MUSIC HALL IN SF WERE FANTASTIC AND I PRAY THAT HE RECOVERSAND RECONCILES WITH MIKE,RUSTY,DAVE,JOHNNY AND DADDYO.I'M PROBABLY BEING SELFISH BUT THE WORLD IS SO SCREWED UP RIGHT NOW AND ARTHUR AND BABY LEMONADE TOGETHER MAKES IT MORE BEARABLE.BUT I WOULN'T BLAME THE BAND IF THEY DECIDE TO GO ELSEWHERE. |

Thanks to Jazzy Mary for the nice comments re: Arthur taking a few minutes to listen to Trane. Mary, when I was in 10th grade I used to listen to the Pharoah Sanders' Karma LP with Leon Thomas singing The Creator Has A Master Plan. If memory from earlier posts serves, you know/knew Leon or Pharoah. As far as spiritual music goes, I don't think it gets any better than the Byzantine chant sung by the Orthodox monks of the monasteries on Mt.Athos, Greece. But that's an entirely seperate subject!
Jazmaan - thank you for the GREAT news in your update on Arthur! If you get a chance, tell Arthur that I loved the Billy Stewart-type scat singing he did at the most recent concert where I heard him... at the end of Orange Skies at the Beachland, Cleveland last October 11. I wasn't sure if Arthur was imitating Billy or General Johnson of the Chairmen of The Board, but it was fantastic!
Merry Christmas to all.

Yes, Karma is a great album. Leon was my boyfriend. I do know Pharoah too, although not well.
I wasn't talking about ANY Coltrane. He SPECIFICALLY needs to listen to "Transitions" and "Crescent". Andrew Hill's "Black Fire" would be a good idea too. The cat *needs* to keep his spirit alive. It's very, very, very hard to be an artist. |

Well said, Cheryl. I have been praying (on and off) for Arthur since around 1980 or 1981. Seeing how great he and the band played back in October when I saw them ... well, maybe I slacked up a little in this department. I will pray more regularly now.

I just hope Arthur (and the band) get through OK. Try not to judge Arthur too harshly, one cannot feel another's pain.
Remember the good times.
