A play on words or tribute? Or would Ian ever be aware of this 1949 American TV program?

I've still got some records that play on 16 rpm, they were my Dad's. Sadly though the record player I had as a kid played 16rpm I havn't got anything now that will. |

A lot of those ol' series got me into music. Davy, Davy Crockett..... Lawman, "he had a job to be done"...Cheyenne....Maveric.....great themes. As a pre-schooler I had my Davy Crockett outfit and guitar!
Then the big one..Ozzie and Harriet!! ALWAYS WAITED FOR RICKIE at the end....sometimes it seemed like forever waiting!! The plots could be rather lame to put it lightly.
Of course I had my early record collection...Gene Autry (he was the MAN!) "Frosty the Snowman" and "On The Good Ship Lollypop" by little Shirely Temple, etc....I was four maybe...man she was HOT!

My Dad is well into Gene Autry and all those old 'cowboy' type singers... I must admit they do have a certain charm. |

He probably also came across Roy Rogers too! "Happy Trailzzzzz" to you...
lk...Ozzie & Harriet....You know Ozzie's idea of putting Rick in the show doing his Travelin' Man stuff was masterful. Great promo for him on tv. I don't think any other pop stars were doing that. Or if they were it was only a very few. |

Right...Roy was great.
re: Ozzie>I can't think of any show quite like it at the time....at least not a sit-com with a (rock) musical hook! Ricky took over!!....it became a rock-star feature that happened to have a "cute" little skit on before hand.

You know to look back at Shindig, Hullabaloo and American Bandstand (the UK show list?) and see how music is marketed today makes those shows seem real quaint. But it was music of the times...each to its own.. |

Quaint but effective...they were our shows and the only way to see some bands. They didn't need a huge music corp to get them booked.....Tim Buckley was not a huge star but he got on the Monkees because Tim was unique, and because of the Monkees' desire to place their show above the network's idea of a just a silly sitcom with hit music.
We were lucky to have such great venues to see those great 60's acts.

Who knows what happened off camera! ...when he was introduced by Mickey, Tim was already there sitting on the antique junker (with a smashed windshield)...and sang Song To The Sirens with a voice of an angel.
It's one of my favorites on ANY 60's show. You have the audio on your Buckley Anthology (with Mickey's intro), Joe. You should see if that one is at your library, Joe! "My Fleeting House" DVD>brilliant!! All fourteen of the only live footage of Tim known to exist....wonderful but we want more!!
