Bruce Palmer..

...highly underrated and the backbone of Buffalo Springfiled. His fluid and creative
bass lines are amazing and he was admired by many contemporaries including Chris Hillman
and Ken Forssi. His bass lines on"Pay The Price" are so fast and fluid it sounds
impossible! Palmer relates that he was on acid that day and when he heard it later,
he couldn't believe it either..

Well, apart from my husband (bass player with 'Animals and Men'!!!) I'm more inclined towards people from my youth, I adore the style of Jah Wobble (a true innovator) and I love Paul Simonon's sound on The Clash's stuff.

Of course, I forgot Johnny Thunders and Arthur 'Killer' Kane, I'm a huge New York Dols fan and both those guys contributed greatly to their sound.

Mark Andes
& McCartney, yes!

and a personal favorite,,,
Jaco Pastorius with that innovative playing on "Hijera"
Jaco is one of the great jazz bassist, his ST solo effort is considered the finest bass album ever recorded...

I'll give you Richard Hell, one of the greats but, even though I'm very fond of The Adverts and The Ramones, I'm not totally sure either people you mentioned could be said to play particularly well. Mind you, maybe there's more to it than ability

Very true Steve.

Actually, on the subject of favourite musicians and Phil Collins (!!!) I read an article the other day online that said Phil, in the 80's, very much appeared to copy the style of one of my favourite drummers, Dave Barbe (orignal Adam and the Ants drummer, before they were famous, and drummer for Bow Wow Wow). I know Dave and I'm sure his mind is boggling as much as mine over that comparison!!

Good point Steve. Ken Forssi told in an interview that he considered Frank Fayad a more tecnically accomplished bass player than himself and even praised him as a person,so nice he even learned Kenny some bass tricks! But who do i prefer of Kenny and Fayads bass playing?guess you know the answer..

Excellent choices, but I too must include Lemmy - best rhythm bassist ever and Chris Squire - I mean, is 'The Fish' not the greatest bass solo ever?!! Finally, must include Phil Lesh - proof you don't need to play fingerstyle to be a phenomnal bass player.
