I'm surprised the Buckingham/Nicks lp isn't (officially) out on cd
I think a track from it may have turned up on a Stevie Nicks box, but you'd think the original "Crystal" from that would've turned up on a Mac box or something
I think Peter is still touring, tho whether he'll ever play with Mick on "Albatross" again.. |

re: Buckingham/Nicks...It's another of those "lost master tapes" mysteries...so I've read.
re Peter: Ya, he has a new band....but i suppose it takes its toll...but when it's in the blood!!

I understand he broke with Splinter
Getting back to Gethesemene.. I was reading a Record Collector interview with Arthurly and it seems he didn't know of any of the tracks that were gonna be on the album, so I doubt if it ever came off
What with the band all addicted to drugs, and Bryan pissing off Arthur by mentioning a solo contract with Elektra..
You can see why it all fell apart
So has anyone seen Love without Arthur? whats THAT like?
I've seen Love 15 times since at Tramps in the early 90s (anyone got a tape?) and I think I'll give it a pass cos no Arthur
Also I can't afford it!
Of course if anyone has a spare ticket for the NYC show
is Moby Grape still around? I understand the Nazz still play here in NJ.. |

In e-mail conversations with Michael Stuart, he mentioned that he never heard of a Gethsemane project, at least while he was with the band.

No surprise there, Gethsemene is a myth, a faery story! It’s what parents tell their children about at night when they want them to grow up to become economists! |

Regarding Gethsemene being a "myth;" maybe so, but I personally think that postings on the board from Johnnylovejoy (that of course would be Mr. Echols), in particular one dated 18/06/05, under the topic "Where's The Album/Book?" certainly make Gethsemene appear to be at least a bit more than "myth." I guess that regarding this subject we could adopt the attitude of "What does he know?" but I myself am not real comfortable with that approach, because if anyone out there might know what Gethsemene was/is about, or what it's status might or might not be, I'd put my money on Johnny Echols. But that's just me... |

Right, RW. Johnny knew Arthur, from the start-- and better (I would think) than any. He would likely have been most closely involved in and around the creations of Arthur Lee. And the known fact that Johnny is "working" on Gethsemane leads one to believe that he wouldn't do it unless he had the songs of Arthur's vision...it would be presumptuous of Johnny to create a Gethsemane of his own creation under the guise of LoVE, and not like him at all.

has Johnny done anything since Love, record wise?
I know Tjay recorded with another band, and Snoopy has done a solo album (!)
(suprisingly NOT reviewed yet in Mojo magazine)
Has Johnny recorded anything since fleeing from Love? is he recording anything?
Oh well. I hope the Best of Baby Lemonade is on sale at the upcoming LoVE shows - Echols plays on a track of that. It would be nice if he would complete Gethesemene, but whos expecting that?
Time to give "Praise and Worship" by Bryan a spin.
"You're crazy, Zaphod," he was saying, "Magrathea is a myth, a fairy story, it's what parents tell their kids about at night if they want them to grow up to become economists, it's..." |

When I spoke to Johnny in 2005, he told me he had been doing session work and had done some work with Miles Davies. When you hear Johnny play live, you can tell he's very much a blues man. My impression is that Gethsemane was very much Johnny's baby
Johnny is a real cool guy, very measured in his responses, the Yang to Arthur's Yin - when you saw them together you could tell that they were soul brothers that went way back. Its great that Johnny is going to be playing with the Baby Lemonade guys again. If you look on the California 66 Revue Facebook site, you'll find a You Tube video of the Arthur Lee Benefit concert from 2006 of "Little Red Book" and "Can't Explain" with both Johnny and Michael Stuart-Ware - brilliant stuff.
This music deserves to be played live, its too good to just be allowed to fade away.

Thanks, Tina. A perfect description of Johnny..."measured", thoughtful....his words have weight. Arthur & Johnny were two of a kind....still waters run deep. Michael strikes me as the same in his measured & thoughtful communication we've had, and during his interviews.
Love collectively and individually: a band that knows no equal.
That link to Johnny's interview settles the dispute. It was worked on back then & WILL be comleted now!

Thanks LK
