I would think that nearly all of us on this site regard Forever Changes as one of the finest albums ever made....if not a cornerstone of western civilisation. But I was wondering which of Love's other records people would place second.
I would definitely go for Four Sail. This album for some reason has always had a certain mystique for me. When I first saw it in a shop in 1971, I didn't have a clue about any of Love's personnel - though I think I would have been surprised if I'd known that only one member from the preceding album had been present. William S Harvey did a magnificent job on the cover art - and it was great to see that this had been faithfully reproduced when Rhino gave the album its first decent CD release a few years back. But it was the magnificent music....August, I'm With You, Robert Montgomery, Nothing and Always See Your Face.......that really did it for me .....late 60s West Coast rock at its very best. |

john9..For me, it was close between Four Sail and Da Capo. Arguably I think Da Capo was a bit "fresh" for its time. Artur and the band were just getting into their creative chops and I thought it showed based on the songs which were produced. Four Sail was good as rock ccan be good but I just don't think it was "trail-blazing" like Da Capo. |

Love's debut album still sounds as fresh today as it did when I first heard it. Hearing Arthur shout "Johnny's turn now" just before one of Echol's 12 string solos still sends a shiver up my spine..... |

For me, it's a toss up between the debut and "Out Here". "Out Here" means alot to me.

LOVE's first album. (there's nothin like your 1st love!) it even has some records not on the Love Story 2 cd collection. and, am i just one of a few who love " Revelation"? and i love Da Capo! you know, i'm all over this board talkin psych-rock-good stuff , but, ya know, there's only ONE LOVE! My heart is with this little mighty magic band that could. Love never was like the others. F.C. is my personal landmark. it changed me since first release. how could it ever have been topped? maybe, but, i'd settle for just as good or almost as good, or even close. it's the MAGIC that does it. it can't be planned. it just IS! The classic magical moments are captured, and i say, here comes that part again!!!yeah!!! every time!!!!

Me too, bob. "Revelation" was very influential if nothing else (I love it too)...Rolling Stones modeled their long track from Aftermath, after hearing Love perform Revelation live. Arthur was frustrated that Love was called out for copying the Stones, ha....never!
Arthur may have hated the vibe, but maybe that's what makes it great. Love was always pushing the boundaries and showing others the way to new horizons. And we all probably agree that side one of Da Capo is about as perfect as any LP side can get......Da Capo has been named, as we've all read, for containing the best album side ( side one) ever.
And "Out Here", for me has some of the best later Love tracks ever...."Gather Round". "Willow, Willow", "Listen To My Song".......

How could anybody even consider False Start to be a Love album? |
