This may his most beautiful song...brings it all back.....they called it the Summer Of Love, they were burning babies, burning flags, the Hawks against the Doves....

"Beeswing"--not on any Thompson solo albums but it's on his Box set- Life and Music.

First heard R.T. play this one at the 150 seat McCabe's Guitar Shop (my all-time favorite venue, anywhere, ever) in the very early nineties. It didn't show up on an album until 1994, when he recorded it for "Mirror Blue," but it's also on "Action Packed: Best of the Capitol Years," from 2001, and as Scott points out, the great version of it on the "R.T. Life and Music" box set. From reliable sources, the song was inspired by the actual life of British songwriter-singer Anne Briggs....

Was it Richard or Bert Jansch that was connected romantically with Anne. I have a great LP of Anne's on 4MENWITHBEARDS...one of her rare vocal ventures. I seem to remember it was Bert. What a musical legacy between Fairport and Pentangle....as we have discussed already many times.

As I recall, it was Bert Jansch who actually lived it, (well, Ms. Briggs, really, with Bert as collateral damage) but it was R.T. who wrote the song. At least, that's the way it was explained to me by someone who pretty much witnessed the story first hand....

Anne released only two albums though she recorded three...she vanished from the folk music scene.....Her first was her voice with no instrument accompanying. Her second is the one I have....where she backs herself on guitar...."The Time Has Come".

Her third album has been issued. Great great folk songbird vocals.

lk..top song there from Richard...

Things that could've happened:
I picked up that at one time the Eagles wanted him to join the band. Oh boy, where would rock and Richard have gone from there?????.......

And I know RT's been long gone from Fairport but you can tell that his "spirit" always haunts that bands works. It'll always have RT DNA I guess....

Occasionally, Richard gets together with them at Fairport's annual Cropredy Convention.

Anyone here attend the 3 day festival each year at all. UK friends?
