Neil Young and Crazy Horse 'Live At The Fillmore East' will be released on November 14th. It is a 1970 show, with plenty of 'Everybody Knows...' material - though sadly not Cinammon Girl. Nonetheless, with Danny Whitten on blistering form, and Jack Nietzche on piano it'll be a treat. I suspect that this is the first of the Bill Graham/Wolfgangs Vault soundboard material to get an official release. Negotiations with many other artists are ongoing. This release is the first bookend to an eight DVD set of Neil studio material covering '65-'73, the other bookend being 'Tonight's The Night' live in London. Two more blocks of eight DVD's and at least four more live albums to follow. Finally, Neil is following Bob's lead. He's said in interview recently that the total number of CD'S/DVD's to be released is in excess of thirty. www.bad-news-beat.org |

One month to release, and he still hasn't changed his mind! Seems that there's going to be more live shows than I first heard. In the offing are solo acoustic shows from '66 and '70. Some people have been waiting for years for this stuff. No more listening to tenth-rate bootlegs.. |

..and now it's been released, last Monday. There's been some griping customer reviews on Amazon.com because the acoustic portion of the gig hasn't been released, but Neil's said this is due to there not being any multi-track tapes in existence. Fair enough. There's an acoustic set from a different '70 gig beinng released soon, so, what's the problem? Methinks that some people are never grateful/satisfied. OK, the record's pretty short, but what it DOES contain is some truly incendiary guitar, that outdoes even the versions of songs on 'Everybody Knows..' and if that alone is not reason enough to purchase, then I don't know what is. If you like having your ears blown off once in a while then you know what to do.

I got this yesterday. Stunning. Definitive versions of Cowgirl and River. The band are on fire. This is the best release I've heard in years. |

Got it in one! OK, he's frustrated a lot of fans by holding on to this stuff for so long, but now it's a case of when, not if, the rest is released, then jaws will drop still further. Why release this set first, despite being incomplete? Because it features his late friend Danny Whitten at his live electrifying peak. It's a tribute, and Neil's payng his respects at the earliest opportunity. A supreme epitaph. |

Latest word is that the first box of eight studio DVDS will be out in Autumn '07. OK, I don't doubt for a second that it's going to be worth it, but when they were first mooted my locks were a different colour. Hair Fades Away.. The good news is firstly, that there should be some more live Archive stuff out before then, secondly, that in first Archive Box there will be his never-released 'Homegrown' album, which shuld have followed 'Harvest', in it's entirety, and thirdly that all the CSNY shows fron their blistering 'Freedom of Speech' tour were filmed for a concert film to be released to coincide with the next US election. In the meantime, if those that can get Youtube go to the fansite www.thrasherswheat.org there is a November 16 link to 1970 film of Neil doing brilliant versions of 'The Loner' and 'Cinnamon Girl'. Enjoy. |

.. and now for the next installment of the Live Archives. Toronto '71. Solo performances of material ranging from the very early days up to 'See The Sky About To Rain', whch ended up on 'On The Beach'. Recorded by David Briggs, previously available as the 'boot' 'Going Back To Canada', but the sound'll be much better. Rated as one of his finest vocal performances.. his parents were in the audience. Sixteen or more tracks, double CD, plus DVD, out March. Uh oh, more money.. |

The second volume of the Live Archive series, 'Live At Massey Hall 1971' is, IMHO, one of the best live albums ever released, and thoroghly deserves its position, holding firm near the top of the Amazon.com chart. I cannot recommend it enough. The first of the four Archive boxed sets are now to be released in September, on Reprise. Can't wait. In addition to the final release of his 'Homegrown' album therein, the live version of the 'Tonight's The Night' album, recorded in London, will, on this form, be a knockout. Chatter about a NY and Crazy Horse Eurotour continues. My guess is, with the sense of purpose that he apparently now has as a consequence of his near fatal episode, manifested in his overt appetite for impassioned musical political protest, that tour dates will be announced following the widely predicted onset of events in warmer climes in the next few weeks. A tour not to be missed.

Really hope old Neil adds the U.K. to his tour, if it happens ..it would be great to see him live again. Solo accoustic, or with Crazy horse. One of the very best of his generation. |
