Everyone by now knows about my whole Arthur Lee fascination and cinema, and for those wondering my name has gotten the attention of a lot of agencies and publicists now. There is a slight little war between to companies but that is another story, but needless to say I am very happy about.

Well, this long winded young man was just wondering what people would you like to see get the film treatment ? I ask because I found out that Ian Curtis of Joy Division has a film about his life coming titled "Control" directed by acclaimed music video helmer Antone Corbijn.

I felt it an odd, yet cool choice.

still wondering when the janis movie is gonna come out, I really hope pink or renee zelleweger don't get the part.
Wasn't there supposed to be a hendrix film in the pipeline too? i heard andre 3000 from outkast was gonna play jimi..could be BS though.
quite looking forward to factory girl coming out, I find the whole warhol scene quite hypnotic yet nauseating, I watched Ciao Manhattan with Edie in which is her getting F'd up in the bottom of a dried out swimming pool...weird!

jellybean...

Glad you viewed Ciao Manhattan. I found it to be tragic. I've been fascinated with the Warhol scene for a long time now...ever since The Exploding Plastic Inevitable with the Velvet Underground, which I saw back in '67 in Philly. There is a song on their first LP called Femme Fatale, and I used to believe it was about Nico (and it probably was ). But after seeing Ciao Manhattan, I now feel that song was about Edie Sedgwick. I used to travel to the East Village in NYC a lot back in the 60's, and it was a SCENE.

Although there have been some movies about Warhol and/or his scene (I shot Andy Warhol, Basquiat, and Trash [Joe Deleasandro and Holly Woodlawn), and others, I still don't feel enough reel-time has been given to Warhol. IMHO Warhol initiated avant-garde.

Lou Reed spoke out against Factory Girl recently. I know Hayden Christiansen is playing a sort of generic Bob Dylan character.

As for the Hendrix biopic, the problem with that is the Hendrix estate is not letting go the usage of any of the songs Jimi actually wrote, which means the only songs that would be allowed to be used in the film would be the ones he covered. Not cool. Andre3000 is also poor casting, and will more than likely not happen. A more recent rumor had Lenny Kravitz about to take on the role, which also is more bs.

I would like to see a very detailed and exhaustingly realistic biopic for Miles Davis, and Sun Ra.

same sentiments with me allen, the whole warhol thing fascinates me. Edie was most definatley a tragic figure, I can almost picture her when listening to dylan singing just like woman and brand new leopard skin pill box hat. I went to see an exhibition in liverpool last summer called "the summer of love" it had janis joplins original porsche and groovy posters etc, but i was stoked to see the original slides that they had used to project the coloured circles onto the bands faces on the "banana/warhol" album, stood open mouthed for about 5 minutes..i'm a big light show fan

A joplin biopic would be cool. A one on Scvreaming Lord Sutch could be interesting. Maybe The Pink Floyd, Roky Eriksson or Skip Spence too. And of course, Arthur Lee.

A Janis Joplin film has been in the works for quite some time, and last I heard Renee Zellweger was one of the names mentioned.

Renee Zelleweger wouldn't be right to play Janis. Pink already has the part locked up I think.
Rene could play a great Cynthia Lennon though or Sandra Dee. Seriously, I'd like to see a movie on the adventures of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart. They went to school together in the late 50's in the Antelope Valley. Captain would drive his dad's Helms Bakery truck around with Zappa while they ate day old pinnaple buns and looked for chicks. Later Zappa met Ray Collins, who brought him into the Soul Giants. Zappa goes to on to write one of the all time East L.A.
do wop songs, form the Mothers, and produce Beefheart. Zappa befriended Lenny Bruce and also hung out with Arthur Lee in his early LA years.

Bryan is an extremely interesting person, and without question any film about Arthur, should feature a whole lot of great stuff on Bryan as well. It is such a shame the man passed on so young.

Zappa would be cool as would Beefheart. I have a passing interest in Zappa, I just need more cash and time to get into the music, but from what I have heard the man was totally fascinating. I am into the whole character study aspect of people which is another reason I am fascinated by Arthur Lee.

I'm with ZF and Thomas on a Zappa biopic - one crazy dude!

As for Pink doing Janis - bleurghhh! Only women who has ever done her justice have been Melissa Etheridge or Lisa Mills, who sang with bbhc in the early 00s. (Glad no-one mentioned Joss Stone, who butchered a Janis track at some awards ceremony. IMHO, it would be like Celine Dion trying to play Grace Slick - completely out of her league. Actually, come to think of it, even though she's still with us, a biopic of Grace would be amazing.

i want to see Sneeky Pete, Chris Hillman, Jay D. Maness, Roger Mcguinn, David Crosby, and others to get together to celebrate the Byrds-Burritos electric-pedal steel -psychedelic-honkytonk-folk music. maybe call themselves the Flying Byrds Brothers.

I look forward to the movie Control based off of the writings of Ian Curtis' widow. I understand that director Antone Corbijn also used to photograph the group, and shoot some of their early music videos.

New Order is recording as Joy Division for the score and soundtrack which should be very cool.
