Posted - 22/10/2009 : 21:32:45 Wish Lennon could've fulfilled his (considerable) solo potential
I tend to listen to McCartney's solo output rather than lennon's. Whether thats cos of a fondness for "Monkberry Moon Delight" is, of course, up for debate

Posted - 22/10/2009 : 20:35:41 Yes Bob.....I've often appreciated the irony of that one over the years. On a slightly darker note, Lennon concludes the 1970 interview, signposted in The Times, with the assertion "I don't want to die at 40". I can still remember almost everything about that dreadful day in December 1980.....what I did at work....who I spoke with.....the evening headlines in the local paper....the television coverage that night.

Posted - 22/10/2009 : 18:29:20 Here is an interesting part of Derek Taylor's liner notes on "Beatles For Sale": " The kids of AD 2000 will draw from the music much the same sense of well being and warmth as we do today."

Posted - 22/10/2009 : 11:35:43 Although we are now a good six weeks past the big launch, I have just found this fascinating review in The Times. It features an interesting little video that I hadn't seen before. Also, at all costs, go to the link within the same site entitled the Lost John Lennon interviews. They date from 1969-71 and are highly illuminating.

Posted - 04/10/2009 : 00:54:46 You can find mono Peppers and White Albums on eBay, curiously. Some enterprising soul is selling his Beatles in Mono box set piecemeal LOL!
the mono White Album is definitely different. I couldn't say which is my fave, howsoever!
can anyone confirm the rumor of a Rutles in Mono box coming out this fall? |

Hopefully the MONO White Album will be issued singly someday. I prefer it over the new stereo remaster!!! I have the BOX, mono of course!!! I envy those in the UK that were able to buy the White Album mono back in the day! We never saw it here.

Posted - 21/09/2009 : 14:22:44 Well I started to listen. I picked their 1st and Sgt Pepper stereos. Sonic heaven. It just a whole different revelation...and I know the monos will be too! I usually pair Revolver with Pepper so I'm looking forward to hearing the former. From hearing what I did of Pepper, their harmonies, lyrics and use of "instruments", I just think it is their crowning acheivement. There was also things in there I never heard before. Eager to hear how Revolver hangs in there for me. And "Misery" on their 1st record just kind of encompasses to me that whole "Beatles" sound. Yep, it puts the "beat" in Beatles! I'll be listening now for quite a while. |

But we do know of course that Capitol were a law unto themselves as far as Beatles recordings were concerned.
And Johnny Beatle would have loved to have cuffed them and thrown them in jail sometimes!!!
