Posted - 26/06/2009 : 06:24:04 Just saw the new Doors documentary "When You're Strange" at the LA Film Festival. This is a must see for any Doors or 60s rock junkie like me. A great portrait of Jim Morrison and some great old footage. Just as I remember when seeing them live. Only thing is that I would have liked to see more concert music. |

"When The Music's Over" was just mesmerizing --the whole LP...... staring at that brilliant cover and entered the world of Jim Morrison. What a musical mind trip!

Posted - 08/07/2009 : 14:02:31 Good pick there....have to agree on the "haunting melodies". I personally find the Doors' music so unique and timeless. Even though they're tied in with the 60's for me their music just transcends the era they made it in. They are a great band for all time. |

I just wonder if The Doors ever managed a finer sequence of haunting melodies than Blue Sunday/Ship Of Fools/Land Ho!/The Spy/Queen Of The Highway/Indian Summer. I am hoping to find the time soon to revisit the others....but this one must surely be one of the great albums from 1970.
Oh yeah, john9....still have my origianl vinyl

Posted - 28/06/2009 : 20:02:02 I saw the Doors twice. Once was at the old Phila. Civic Center. This was the very next concert after Jim exposed himself in Florida (1968). Everyone there was thinking and screaming for the same thing "let it all hang out'. But he didn't. It was a tremendous gig. A local band with a very local following led off (The Mandrake Memorial), and the number 2 group was The Soul Survivors.
I next saw them in '69 or '70 at the Phila Spectrum. Another amazing gig
