Posted - 28/09/2006 : 02:08:10 Neil Young and Crazy Horse 'Live At The Fillmore East' will be released on November 14th. It is a 1970 show, with plenty of 'Everybody Knows...' material - though sadly not Cinammon Girl. Nonetheless, with Danny Whitten on blistering form, and Jack Nietzche on piano it'll be a treat. I suspect that this is the first of the Bill Graham/Wolfgangs Vault soundboard material to get an official release. Negotiations with many other artists are ongoing. This release is the first bookend to an eight DVD set of Neil studio material covering '65-'73, the other bookend being 'Tonight's The Night' live in London. Two more blocks of eight DVD's and at least four more live albums to follow. Finally, Neil is following Bob's lead. He's said in interview recently that the total number of CD'S/DVD's to be released is in excess of thirty. www.bad-news-beat.org |

Posted - 24/06/2009 : 18:14:56 Right. john & rocker!! A couple of the DVD included just show a TT or tape deck spinning endlessly while playing Neil's tunes. I didn't mind with Sugar Mtn. having the extra DVD with just Neil in a snowy scene, but for the boxed DVD set $$$ I expect film footage or something! The interactive links are pretty clunky too...so I'd likely go with the CDs if I didn't already have the latest 3 individual Archive Series releases. I guess it would include the bonus inserts etc.
I'll just listen to my Massey Hall LP.....and journey through the past!

I find these days with box sets that I just don't have time to listen to them. Instead of paying out a king's ransom for this latest package, I shall schedule long overdue listening sessions for Neils' first four (and in my view, best)albums. Now, if Warner were to remaster those and include the relevant bonus material then, as Macca might say, "that would be something". |

Posted - 23/06/2009 : 22:04:52 Well it's out....anyone agree with the CNET review that it's a monumental rip-off?!!
I have the three recent CD & vinyl releases so this really disappoints. The teaser that I got in the Sugar Mtn. CD didn't reveal I would have to buy it again if I wanted the new Vol. 1 ten disc set....$60 for ten CDS or $250 for 10 DVDs OR $350 for ten Bly-ray box....come-on.
I love ya Neil but COME ON!!!

Posted - 02/04/2007 : 23:46:39 Really hope old Neil adds the U.K. to his tour, if it happens ..it would be great to see him live again. Solo accoustic, or with Crazy horse. One of the very best of his generation. |

Posted - 02/04/2007 : 04:38:32 The second volume of the Live Archive series, 'Live At Massey Hall 1971' is, IMHO, one of the best live albums ever released, and thoroghly deserves its position, holding firm near the top of the Amazon.com chart. I cannot recommend it enough. The first of the four Archive boxed sets are now to be released in September, on Reprise. Can't wait. In addition to the final release of his 'Homegrown' album therein, the live version of the 'Tonight's The Night' album, recorded in London, will, on this form, be a knockout. Chatter about a NY and Crazy Horse Eurotour continues. My guess is, with the sense of purpose that he apparently now has as a consequence of his near fatal episode, manifested in his overt appetite for impassioned musical political protest, that tour dates will be announced following the widely predicted onset of events in warmer climes in the next few weeks. A tour not to be missed.

Posted - 17/01/2007 : 00:18:42 .. and now for the next installment of the Live Archives. Toronto '71. Solo performances of material ranging from the very early days up to 'See The Sky About To Rain', whch ended up on 'On The Beach'. Recorded by David Briggs, previously available as the 'boot' 'Going Back To Canada', but the sound'll be much better. Rated as one of his finest vocal performances.. his parents were in the audience. Sixteen or more tracks, double CD, plus DVD, out March. Uh oh, more money.. |
