Posted - 11/07/2005 : 02:11:32 Just got back from a stunning gig..that band are firing on all cylinders and who even noticed that AL wasn't there, not me for sure or all the others there, many of whom said it was the best Love gig they've seen in ages. Just wish I could get to some more....if only there was a way of getting to Exeter on Tuesday......
If anyone is having second thoughts, then take it from me, this is the best show you will have seen Love perform in years, don't miss it |

However, me and my mate have recorded a pretty decent (I reckon) cover of Riders on the Storm. Anyone want to check it out?
Here's a link to the .mp3 just in case...

This link wouldn't work for me Jim unfortunately! |

Posted - 16/07/2005 : 15:22:45 Caryne, I agree there really is no point. However, as a musician struggling to find direction (and confidence), I find it a useful exercise to do stuff like this. It helps get me back into the swing of things and also helps me to learn how to use all this new fangled PC-based home recording stuff.
I find all this Stars In Your Eyes kind of ****e staggeringly dull but I just think we managed to recreate some of the feel of the original. Maybe one day I will get the bottle to write a song of my own... |

Posted - 16/07/2005 : 14:36:45 Not being funny (and I love The Doors) but never really seen the point of 'note by note' covers of any song...sorry |

Posted - 16/07/2005 : 12:15:17 I think my next challenge will be to try a couple of Love covers, just to see how authentic we can get the sound. Perhaps Alone Again Or for starters... |

Posted - 16/07/2005 : 01:13:18 Jim, I think you shouldn't expect too huge of a reaction from a Love board to a note-by-note cover of a Doors tune :).
I thought it was all right (would work for a Friday night, and certainly not 'bad' :) with a good job on the vocals and good representation of the original sound textures. |

Posted - 15/07/2005 : 08:02:34 My apologies, Mosquito, but, I am afraid, you cannot be too careful these days. As I said, you will get most of the information you want frm Mike's Diaries, so keep reading. Hope you get to see 'Love' very soon. |

Posted - 14/07/2005 : 23:27:43 Caryne, sincerely, my intention is not to make mischief, but to further my knowledge of the recent 'goings on' in the band. I have been a fan of the band for about 20 years, but it is only from finding this site recently that I have become aware of recent 'issues.' I am certainly not mischief making, or attempting to make you make comments you may later have cause to regret.
I will, as you suggest, read some more of Mikes diary. What I've read so far - the very recent posts - is excellent. A real insight.
Anyway, peace.

OK unfair question. Typical gig with Arthur in recent times. What could I expect?
Sorry, if you are a genuine fan with a genuine question but I have to say there have been several people posting on this board recently with just the sole purpose of making mischief, it is for that reason that I am not going to comment any further on Arthur's past/present and (possible) future position. All I can suggest, if you really do want to know is you read up a few older posts on this site and, maybe, check out Mike's diaries...I think they say all you need to know.
Steve - you know I will always disagree with you on that Doors thing, so, as you say, each to his/her own |

Posted - 14/07/2005 : 21:50:24 Each to their own I have seen the Doors 21st Century 5 times and they are a great live act with 2 original members the best gig I have seen was in Paris on December 8th 2003 (Jim's 60th birthday) in a small club not far from Pere Lachaise where Jim is buried.. they are recording a new album at present as well as playing dates in the u.s.! Other Voices is a pretty good album and Full Circle is just ok great Doors fan site at http://newdoorstalk.proboards43.com/ quote: Originally posted by jimofbath
Okay!
So let's all just agree that Love with Arthur Lee were AMAZING and The Love Band are damn AWESOME!
The Doors without Jim... that sounds pretty bad. In fact, I just "got hold" of a copy of Other Voices and Full Circle. They are both pretty poor. Perhaps I could stand in for Morrison if they tour again...
hey ho! lets go! |

Posted - 14/07/2005 : 18:02:35 Well, the band do have Johnny at the moment so there is a link to the 60s, but even without, I think it's pretty tough to call them a 'tribute band'...as has been said many times before..this group of musicians have played as 'Love' for over ten years, far longer than anyone ever did before...it they don't deserve the name then no-one does. Seriously, you would not have enjoyed the gig in Frome if Arthur had been there in his current condition, believe me, it's not something to be 'enjoyed'. When Arthur is on form he is a great performer, bit when he isn't...... |
