Posted - 14/08/2010 : 19:34:21 ...was one of those "if only" moments. If only Jimi had lived...if only Love was still Love....
I had it on today, without prejudice, while occupying myself with work and was surprised to find it just as enjoyable as any good album in my collection. We set the bar so high with the great FC and early Love that we can't hear the music for what Arthur was attempting. Great music that had my foot tapping......
If for nothing more than to hear Arthur sing in that wonderful voice of his, listen again...."Shine on, Arthur".

Posted - 25/08/2010 : 01:57:23 One thing that didn't help sales of False Start, was, in my op, the dull packaging...one okay foto, used twice, surrounded by a largely black border, with a useless fold-out sleeve, containing one giant, out-of-focus shot of Arthur, and...the foto is in reverse!...looks like Arthur is playing left-handed. The only saving grace of the package is the red LOVE logo. The Out Here cover/painting/fold-out sleeve, with one foto of Arthurly, with his new innocuous-looking crew, shooting a 'gun' wasn't much better. The last tasteful lp jacket was Four Sail...nice cover photo and beautiful painting/graphics on the back. Also the LOVE Revisited best-of was nice. Elektra had a great art department...I ain't too sure about Blue Thumb, or Bob Krasnow's 'taste' in album jacket art design. Oh well...guess I'll just pick a while. |

hmmmm..in any case I think they should do something with that record...that record is a special artifact of rock...nothing like it all in the vaults!.....
KD: I think they have, haven't they ? Isn't it in the Grammy Awards Hall of Fame ?

Arthur is in the Grammy Hall...inducted after his death...but do you need to be Gold Certified to get there? Not necessary I thimk....isn't he honored as a songwriter? But is Love honored there or just Arthur? I am unsure. ______________________________________________________________________
The group is honored at the Grammy Hall of Fame, and Johnny is singled out for his guitar work, But only Arthur Lee and Johnny Echols have recieved the certificate.

well, when you live outside the law you must be honest I guess. Chances are 0 that he didnt keep a copy.
KD: "Live outside the law"? You make him sound like a common criminal - trust me he's not. Nothing unlawful in buying, selling, or trading personal tapes.
Again folks, he either kept a copy for himself or he didn't, and either way he ain't telling !

Its the kind of thing Vegas wont give odds on. What type of tape is it anyways? A professional tape or a bootleg audience tape? How did he obtain? |

I don't think so....if they researched all the records of sales of all the incarnations and releases, it must have surpassed the "gold" standard. Too bad they couldn't get it to Arthur before he died, as Johnny had wished and had tried to do. It would have made Arthur so proud.
(And damn that Hall for not inducting him)

oh, was Skok the interviewer for the full interview that appeared in Psychedelic Psounds?
Yeah, I don't expect the live tape will ever turn up. Stupid of that man to pass the live Whisky show without making a back up copy but I guess it was a condition of the sale?
Not enough interest in Love for there ever to be a release for it. If it was a Syd Barrett track coming out (like the 20 minute Rhamadan, being released in October with a new Syd compilation as a download) there would be a veritable army of Pink Floyd (Sound) fans out there to pick it up
But a live Forever Changes band release.. can't see theres much interest. Can't imagine the most recent releases by Love (Love Lost, Arthur Lee, Whisky) have exactly hopped off the shelf
Thats standard procedure, when you are hoarding a tape. Either you did sell it and dont want anyone asking you about it because the buyer will want his money back. If everyone has a tape what was the sense in buying. You only buy to hoard or bootleg. But that he he doesnt keep a copy...... well, when you live outside the law you must be honest I guess. Chances are 0 that he didnt keep a copy. |
