Just finished reading a piece on the Dead and I was just wonderng if any relationship existed between them. Did the West Coast bands know each other well?

If Owsley has tapes then I would imagine the Grateful Dead organization has tapes the same things!

I contacted him to see if he had any peak Love live (67/8) and he was really a pretty nasty guy..

about 10 years ago, right after GD records released an Allman Bros. show from this ABB/Love/Dead run, I briefly corresponded with Owsley via email and asked him about Love's shows. he claimed to have Love's sets on tape, and said he'd be interested in releasing them if an agreement could be reached with Arthur. I passed along the info (I think to David Fairweather?) but don't think anything came of it.

I agree with kdion - some of the live stuff from this era absolutely cooks.

Arthur did worse shows..

I was reading in the Castle about how his band did a REALLY long version of "One" and he went across the street during the song to buy some buttermilk..

Free the tapes!

Keith, the Dime site is absolutely worth putting
up with having to try to sign up a few times until it finally lets you
in. Weird process, I know, but it took me a few tries and a few days
to get in, for some reason.

KD: Well the truth finally comes out - here's what I just received from the dime site:

"We are very sorry!

At the moment, there are at least 103,520 registered users at www.dimeadozen.org, the maximum allowed under DIME's current configuration.

However, free slots become available for new users daily as inactive accounts are deleted. When DIME has fewer than 103,520 registrants, new users can sign up. Please note that the statistics on DIME's web site are updated every ten minutes; therefore, you may see this message even if the web site reports fewer registered users than the maximum.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Lorca and Starsailor are about as far from "easy to get into" as any
music I've ever had to work to appreciate. Substantial portions of
each of those records are (to me, at least) closer to "free jazz" than
anything I've heard from a major artist, which Tim Buckley certainly
was. I think he may have been one of those artists who needed to be
constantly recreating himself. Remember Joni's comment about the
fans who would yell out to Van Gogh, "Paint a Starry Night again!"
My suggestion regarding Tim's more difficult stuff is simply that
if after a few efforts it still doesn't work for you, just stick with
the stuff that does work. My own most-played Tim albums are "Happy
Sad," "Blue Afternoon," and "Greetings," in no particular order, but I love
the live stuff, too. Keith, the Dime site is absolutely worth putting
up with having to try to sign up a few times until it finally lets you
in. Weird process, I know, but it took me a few tries and a few days
to get in, for some reason. The site is amazing in it's scope, and I
have been able to contact original posters of now dead torrents,
to ask for a re-post, and they've been cool enough to put them back up
for me every time. Aside from the remarkable Tim Buckley Santa Monica
Civic show, I've gotten tons of mind-blowing Butterfield, Bloomfield, Byrds,
Burritos, etc., many of which I'd never even been aware of before. Quite
a few of my own Love shows are now up on Dime too; it's pretty much all
about sharing the music in a totally not-for-profit mode.

I'm in the middle of reading Tim Buckley's biography by his guitarist, Lee Underwood.
The name of it is "Blue Melody", and there's no mention of AL or Love, even though they played Bido Lido's around the same time Love probably played there.
It would be nice to know what they thought of each other, too.
Anyone know?

Glad to see another Buckley fan...we have a few!! Love his work, especially HappySad & Blue Afternoon. A lot of Bido Lido connections. I'll ask Michael Stuart if he remembers Tim.

KD: Make it 3 at least ! I love and have most of Tim's whole
catalog - Love "Hallucinations" from the Live in the UK 1968
double album. Don't see what all the fuss was really about with
Tim's son Jeff. Though he was very talented he didn't hold a candle
to Tim - a true original.

Free the Buckleys !

KD & Rick......I love MOST of Tim's work but have never been able to get into his extreme/experimental phase...Lorca, etc. Do you listen to that period?...I have the ultimate respect for what he was doing then...should I give it another shot? Convince me.

Tim fans need to be aware that there is a pretty
remarkable Tim Buckley show, live at the Santa Monica Civic,
available on my favorite music sharing site, www.dimeadozen.org.
Grab it while it's still up and available, you'll be very glad that you did.

Hey RW - I just tried to sign up at dimeadozen.org and it
rejected my attempt to sign in because my "email address
does not appear to be valid". And of course I used the same
email address I use here and everywhere else I go - please advise
if you have any suggestion.

initial hesitation due to my decades-long massive appreciation of the
amazing work of Tim Buckley, but I did reach a point some time ago
wherein I came to greatly appreciate Jeff, as well. My suggestion as
a starting point still has to be Jeff's version of Leonard Cohen's
"Hallelujah," covered by about a gazillion artists, not to mention
L.C.'s own stunning rendition, but Jeff Buckley never fails to bring
chills. Give that one another listen, Keith, and see if you don't
hear at least a little of the genetic blessing that Jeff received
courtesy of his bloodline. Something very special was definitely
in the genes. Tim fans need to be aware that there is a pretty

KD: Hey RW - thanks I'll give it a listen. Don't get me wrong
here folks - I know Jeff's a stunning talent and well deserving
of any and all accolades - I just like his old man better and
have been listening to him on and off for over 30 years. "Greetings
From LA" smokes !

Thanks, Rick. I'm guessing you had a chance to at least meet Tim...an interview would have been nice!!! (Package will soon be on it's way! Cheers)
