This is an atempt to gather as much information as possible about Arthur Lee and the members of Love through the years.

I know this is not complete and therefore I would request that anyone with any additional information please send it to me.

I'm working on a comprehensive, and complete list of all of Love's tours - past, present and future -- and need a lot of dates, so please take a look and see if you can help me with some. I also need any and all information about setlists if you have any. I have many questions regarding recordings and other things so it would be great if you could contact me if you see any mistakes or have any additions that will make this a better website.

These pages couldn't have been made without help from a lot of Love fans all over the world. Thanks to all of you.

Keep on shining.

Arthur Lee’s seminal work as leader of the ’60s band Love is treasured by discerning rock fans around the world. Lee’s status as one of his era’s preeminent musical cult heroes has grown immensely in recent years, leading to generations of new fans rediscovering the artist’s remarkable catalog. Unfortunately, Lee and the band’s body of available recordings is relatively small, making Sundazed Music’s release of a previously-unheard full-length vintage Arthur Lee and Love album a major musical event.

Love Lost was recorded in 1971, during a brief, little-known period during which Love was signed to Columbia Records. Lee and the then-current Love lineup—bassist Frank Fayad, guitarist Craig Tarwater and drummer Don Poncher—recorded an album’s worth of new material for the label. But after the band left the company, the recordings sat unreleased and unheard until now. The material on Love Lost—comprised of the unreleased Columbia sessions, plus five unreleased acoustic demos from the same period—captures Love in a transitional phase, charting the next step in Lee’s idiosyncratic musical trajectory, following the lush garage-psychedelia of the classics Da Capo and Forever Changes, and the bluesier direction of the hard-rocking False Start and Out Here.

Many of the songs included on Love Lost would resurface, often in radically different form, on subsequent Love releases, and on Lee’s fabled solo album Vindicator. But the original versions included on Love Lost boast a playful looseness that’s absent from most of Lee’s later work, as well as a raw, edgy urgency that underlines his credentials as an early progenitor of punk-rock attitude. Love Lost also features three songs—”For a Day,” “Trippin’ & Slippin’” and “C.F.I. Instrumental”—that have not previously been released, in any form. With a treasure trove of vintage Love music that has never before been heard by fans, Love Lost is a major addition to Arthur Lee and Love’s body of work, and its release is a major event for Lee’s fervent fan base.

July 10. 2009:

Sorry for the lack of updates, hopefully I'll have more time in the next month.

This one should have been posted June 25:
"You probably already have heard the sad news that Sky Saxon died this morning in Austin, Texas after a brief illness. He performed as recently as Saturday night, before being hospitalized with an infection. Sky was a performer until the end. Our hearts are heavy because sky was a good friend, particularly for James Lowe and Mark Tulin of the Electric Prunes and Johnny Echols of Love, who knew Sky going all the way back to Sunset Strip clubs in the mid-1960s. Sky was a seminal figure to the psychedelic/punk/alt rock genres. He also was a very kind man who never was too busy to talk to a reporter or a fan. Sky's legacy is demonstrated in the countless postings on Facebook and other sites of people who mourn his loss. The California ' 66 tour will go on as scheduled, with another act who that perform with the Electric Prunes and Love, but who will in no way replace Sky.
Patrick Hand California '66 Revue"

Updated the California '66 Revue Tourpage.

Added a missing 1986 date to the tourlist.
Thanks to Dave Wallin-Eddy: "I notice you have no shows listed for 1986. There was at least one - July 19, 1986. "Summerferst - Return of the 60's". One of the highlights of the first day was supposed to be a Love reunion with Arthur and Bryan but there were "problems" with Arthur at the last minute so Bryan went ahead and did the show without him. I am sending a photo of Sky Saxon from the press conference a few days earlier because you can see the poster for the show behind him. Over his shoulder, hidden - third name down - Country Joe, Blues Image, Arthur Lee and Love."

and one for 1968 thanks to Brad Fry: "Don't know the exact date, but they played at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Ca. in April, 1968 during our spring vacation (high school). They were magnificent."
Anyone know the date?

and another one for 1966 Whisky-A-Go-Go on Feburary 25. Thanks to Jayson Valentine

Some great news from Diane Lee:

The following announcement is from John Einarson & Diane Lee.
"We are very pleased and excited to announce that a full biography of Arthur Lee is currently in development and will be published in the fall of 2010 by Jawbone Books (distributed worldwide by Hal Leonard Books) under the title "Forever Changes: Arthur Lee & the Book of Love". The author is respected music historian and writer John Einarson. John's previous books include acclaimed biographies of The Byrds' Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Buffalo Springfield, Randy Bachman, Neil Young, and John Kay/Steppenwolf.

"Forever Changes: Arthur Lee & the Book of Love" is being developed with the full participation and endorsement of Diane Lee and Arthur Lee Entertainment (dba) Forever Changes Music and includes Arthur's voice throughout based on his own original manuscript as well as dozens of new interviews with those close to Arthur throughout his life."

Additional thoughts from Diane:
I would like for Arthur's friends & fans to know a little more about all of this. Standing in for Arthur & partnering with John Einarson on the project was a decision not made in haste and preceded with much forethought. (I'm sure on both sides) For me, the decision made, I am convinced John is the one to best help tell the story of Arthur Lee and his musical legacy. I have entrusted him with this precious gift, a personal story that was important to Arthur it be told.

And now, the other news
There are 3 Arthur Lee music projects in the works. It has taken awhile to begin to learn what I'm doing in this arena, not moving too quickly in an effort to avoid making big mistakes which could cause problems for the music. I'm pretty sure Arthur is watching & guiding me.

Along the way I have met some wonderful people willing to give support from the heart because they too care about the music & not so much the $$.

The first of the music projects, soon to be announced & released, is something I have had very little to do with. It is Mark Linn who put a lot of time, patience, knowledge & effort into the upcoming musical release. It's his baby & to be announced very soon

The other two musical projects I definitely have hands & a grip on but again want to add, with help from many good people. Hopefully will be able to announce those in the near future. The goal is for one if not both of these to be released before the end of 2009. We'll see. Won't we?

A word about copyrights on these pages

This entire Web Site is the result of much time and hard work by the author, who exercises his copyright over the site as a whole.

Obviously, due to the very nature of the site, much of the content is copied from other sources. Where known, the copyright holder and/or author has been acknowledged. However, in no instance have I sought
permission for the use of any part of these copyrighted items, and I am therefore probably in breach of every copyright law under the sun.

I say this in my defence: that (A) as a lay-person, I wouldn’t have the faintest idea of how or from where to obtain permission, (B) that this site is provided as a well-meant tribute to a musical and lyrical geniuses, and (C) if the copyright holders don’t want their stuff copied and published on the web by me, then they should start their own Arthur Lee and Love
web pages, and save me the time and trouble! If this all gets too heavy, I can see me packing it in and not bothering.

All photos are the copyright of the photographer.

If anyone seriously has a problem with an aspect of copyright law or artists’ rights relating to my work, I would appreciate being contacted personally in the first instance.
