Never will forget seeing Laura, live, 1970, just prior to her first early "retirement". Just Laura and her grand piano. Love.
Laura released great album after great album, from her first in 1967: "More Than A New Discovery"... to her last: "Angel In The Dark" 1996. Laura was taken from us, far too soon.
My posts normally say "listen and read on", but not here. Stop, look, listen.. then read on...
Laura Nyro - He's A Runner & Save The Country 1969 - FIRST live TV appearance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHgKdT7LNos&nohtml5=False
Laura Nyro (October 18, 1947 Ð April 8, 1997) was an American songwriter, singer, and pianist. She achieved critical acclaim with her own recordings, particularly the albums Eli and the Thirteenth Confession (1968) and New York Tendaberry (1969), and had commercial success with artists such as Barbra Streisand and The 5th Dimension recording her songs. Her style was a hybrid of Brill Building-style New York pop, jazz, gospel, rhythm and blues, show tunes, rock, and soul.
Between 1968 and 1970, a number of artists had hits with her songs: The 5th Dimension with "Blowing Away", "Wedding Bell Blues", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Sweet Blindness", "Save the Country", and "Black Patch"; Blood, Sweat & Tears and Peter, Paul & Mary with "And When I Die"; Three Dog Night and Maynard Ferguson with "Eli's Comin'"; and Barbra Streisand with "Stoney End", "Time and Love", and "Hands off the Man (Flim Flam Man)". Nyro's best-selling single was her recording of Carole King and Gerry Goffin's "Up on the Roof".
In 2012, Nyro was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. -wiki

Laura Nyro - Angel in the Dark
The beautiful, talented, soulful Laura Nyro performs Angel in the Dark. From the album of the same name, it is like unexpected manna from heaven, and also poignant to hear how she had returned to the scene in the mid 90's, doing some of the best work of her career, only to be struck down shortly afterward by the ravages of cancer. -akimbo
