I sort of see similarities with these guys:
1. They both struggled with alcohol/drug use in their careers
2. Had marginal success in the United States with the first major band they were involved and never gain that success again. Bryan with Love, and Steven with the Small Faces.
3. They both are reported to suffer from mental illness. I am not bashing those guys, I am noting similarities they had.
4. Both overshadowed by other musicians.
Bryan's peers such as the Byrds, David Crosby, Arthur Lee
Steve's peers such as Peter Frmapton, Rod Stewart, to name a few.
5. Both attempted make comebacks or attempts reconciliation with former bandmates.
Bryan's off-and-on love/hate friendship with Arthur. Bryan wrote to Arthur in prison in the 1990s. Steven recording with Peter Frampton in 1991 a few days before he died.
