Just wondering...Any relation to this Warwick song with the one name change in title on FC?
Isn't that just Arthur's wry sense of humour and wordplay on the classic Bacharach/David tune...after Arthur covered a song that the songwriting duo already were unhappy with (My Little Red Book). And, merely Arthur's advice to all those uninvited house crashers not to make themselves too much at home--at Love's Castle (assuming he conceived it that early on--Arthur was always composing songs about life as others were living it). All those rock stars and hangers-on making guests of themselves must have been pretty stressful for the otherwise reclusive Lee.
lk..so you think he did know of Dionne's song then before he wrote 'Motel'?
It was a hit from 1964, and Arthur was very savvy about the day's music scene, from pop to r&b...he made it his business to know I think. And Dionne was already a popular icon in 1964, and a hero for the African American community. She was HOT. So were the B & D songwriting team.
On a similar note, just heard a tune from 1941 called 'I don't want to set the world on fire'...it continues 'I just want to set a flame in your heart'. Very very very similar to one of Arthur + BL's best collaborations, in my opinion :).
