Any Love'sters in the vicinity of Brighton this evening (Friday 22nd) may care to wander down to the Hanbury Ballroom in Kemp Town where America's best-kept secret Michael Hurley (ex Holy Modal Rounder) of 'Armchair Boogie'fame will be holding court.Satisfaction Guaranteed.....indeed!

Hi Fi Snock indeed. Never expected to see a Hurley fan here but I'll chime in - Hurley's great and has been quietly twisting brains since before Love formed. He's nothing like Love but he's a trip.

Acoustic folk music but very different, a sort of hippie biker folkie with a way twisted imagination.

Hi Conrad - Good to hear from another Snock affecionado.I've been a devoted follower of Michael since I first heard the late great John Peel play 'Armchair Boogie'back in the very early '70's.Most folks may only know of him through his association with the Holy Modal Rounders, and their famous 'weird' track,'So You Wanna Be a Bird?' on the soundtrack of 'Easy Rider'.The Rounders album 'The Holy Modal Rounders Eat the Moray Eels'(yet another Elektra classic!) features that track, and Michael's own haunting song 'The Werewolf'(once heard NEVER forgotten!).IMHO 'Armchair Boogie' is a stone-cold classic album, and has claims to be possibly the most laid-back album in the universe (other contenders include JJ.Cale's 'Naturally',Loudon Wainwright's second album,Skip Spence's 'Oar',or David Crosby's 'If Only I Could Remmember My Name' - suggestions on a postcard please). The album is also one of the hardest records to get hold of, since it has never yet been re-released to my knowledge. If any Love'sters ever have that urge to just swing in a hammock,or sit on their back porch wilttlin' wood while the sun goes down, then 'Armchair' is the soundtrack you need.A live performance by Michael and his pals is always a treat, and despite a rather noisy crowd at the Brighton gig (are they spoilt for music in Brighton,or just plain rude?),the Hurley magic won through. They're off to Ireland for a few more gigs next week, featuring at the Carlsberg Rhythm & Roots festval in Kilkenny on Bank Holiday Wekend, then returning to the UK for a few more gigs (Glasgow,Glenfarg,Leicester,Manchester,Newcastle,& Farndale in Yorkshire)If they are in your neck of the woods, catch 'em,and get Snocked!(A friend who I took along to the Brighton gig described it as a Robert Crumb drawing come to life - quite which Crumb drawing he meant was not clear!)If any other Love'sters are intrigued check out more info at Michael's own rather primitive Snockonews web-site http://myenom.com/2846/page99.htm,or try www.bluenavigator.netthe Dublin based fan-site.Once Snocked forever Snocked.....!
