GOODHUMORMAN, A FEW OF YOUR COMMENTS MAKE ME WONDER.
"Michael does have a place. His presence would increase creditability of Love. That would increase successs and hopefully pave the way for Love to become a Hall of Fame band.
The HOF should be Arthur's legacy, not things outside the music world."
HOW WOULD MICHAEL'S PRESENCE INCREASE THE CREDITABILITY {SIC} OF LOVE AND BOOST THE BAND'S CHANCES OF GETTING INTO THE HALL OF FAME? IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE SUGGESTING A SLICK SLEIGHT OF HAND I.E. GETTING AS MANY ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS BACK IN THE BAND TO HELP PERSUADE THE ROCK AND ROLL HOF TO INDUCT THE GROUP. IF THAT IS YOUR REASONING IT IS THE HEIGHT OF CYNICISM.
I PERSONALLY DON'T GIVE A **** ABOUT THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME. I KKOW IN MY HEART OF HEARTS THAT MANY MEMBERS ARE NOT DESERVING (FLEETWOOD MAC, GRATEFUL DEAD, STEELY DAN) AND TONS OF THE BEST MUSICIANS DON'T HAVE A HEARTBEAT'S CHANCE IN HELL OF GETTING IN. IF LOVE GOES IN, CREDIT IS DUE FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH, BUT WHY COMPROMISE YOUR INTEGRITY TO ANGLE TO GET IN?

So just to add to this spirited discussion
"DO YOU NOT SEE HOW "RE-JOINING ARTHUR AND JOHHNY IN LOVE" COULD BE SEEN AS BEING WILLING TO JOIN THE BAND PERMANANTLY?"
No. A couple 'guest' slots does not imply permanence.
"Johnny did some 'guest' slots with the band well before he permanently re-united with them. Conka did a guest slot or two as well [RIP Don]. I think it would be nice if Michael also did some 'guest' slots. That's all I mean for now. I'm not meaning to uproot Daddy-O or anyone else for that matter."
"Let me say that I read Michael Stuart's book and thoroughly enjoyed it but two things came across clearly. 1) He doesn't/didn't think much of Arthur.
Michael has never said that he doesn't/didn't think much of Arthur. YOU are saying that.
"I know Arthur is no saint but there is some real resentment/anger there". Again, your opinion, which you are entitled to.
2) Michael HATED Forever Changes believe it or not. He said, if I remember correctly, that he listened to the album only once because he associated it with highly unpleasant memories from recording it."
And how would you feel if you were a band member and your recording label wanted to bring in studio musician to play your songs. Would you have fond memories of that recording session. BRG-you're going to hate this. In my opinion, LOVE were 5 very talented music geniuses, that played together in a band. Each and every member was/is a genius. Even Michael.
CAN HE STILL PLAY WELL?
You got me on that one. I do know that Michael still has a set-up, and plays and practices often. He plays alongside his son, who is a guitarist. I reckon that a guy who once played in The LA Philharmonic Orchestra, The Sons of Adam, and LOVE might still know how to play a bit. Before Johnny came back, did you ever wonder if Johnny can still play. Granted you may have seen him by now, and know that he can play his a.. off. But before Johnny came back, did you ever have a doubt that he could still play? I've never heard you voice your opinion on that.

Regarding Allan:
A comparison: Steppenwolf...This is a band that should have gone down as the Deep Purple/Led Zeppelin of American 60-70s rock...But lead vocalist John Kay has always seen Steppenwolf as just The John Kay Band...And he has hired and fired with regularly...Well fans, don't see Steppenwolf as just the John Kay solo act. They want Michael Monarch, Nicholas St. Nicholas, Goldy McJohn and Jerry Edmonton (RIP).....The constantly changes faces has destroyed Steppenwolf and its creditability. They should be a mega-act. Instead, they are just a small club nostalgia act. John Kay has shot himself in the foot. It was Dennis Edmonton who wrote "Born to be wild." It was Michael Monarch and Goldy McJohn with the great instrumental work with Jerry putting an exclamation mark at the end with a short drum outburst.
Fans don't just identify with the music, but also the faces that made the music.
David Green is a great drummer and has done a great job...But watching him do Michael's old work on drums is kind of like...well...walking up to David and asking him to sign the FC CD and he signs it Michael Stuart. It just isn't the same.
I think Mike can return, David and fellow Baby Lemonaders can remain and it will be a great act to follow.

Dear Daniel (goodhumorman),
I can no longer take you seriously for two reasons.
One, you have shown in your posts that you cannot spell the word "credibility." If you can't spell it how can you ask for it?
Two, you know way too much about Steppenwolf a band whose name I thankfully haven't seen on this board until now.

I love LOVE, I only got into them about less than 2 years ago, and I have to say FC was the freshest sounding album I've heard in a long time. But one thing I do have to say is that Love today ARE a nostalgia band. my reasons for saying this is and there's no new material bar Rainbow in the Storm. Alas the long awaited album has failed to marterialise. And looking at the current set lists no new songs are been performed.

Love are whoever Arthur Lee decides he wants in his band. That's how It's always been. Forever Changes! Get it?

Why should I know how to spell credibility?
My college degree is in journalism not micro-biology

Hi, Don't Michael and Arthur are any god friends these days. I remember from the Spaceland gig's last August, Arthur singing "I wonder who it will be tomorrow Michael Stuart or me",

Surely that was Martha Stewart, not Michael Stuart? Her name doesn't mean much in the UK but wasn't she jailed (in USA) for something that didn't seem too serious (don't know what)? |

Yup I think thats far more likely Phil, he's been known to use Martha before along with Michael Jackson. Think Aake must have misheard him. |

Hmm, I'm wondering though, hasn't M. Jackson possibly stepped BEYOND the sphere wherein "we're all normal"? |

Yeah, that's right. At Town Hall he said "Martha Stewart" and got a laugh from the audince. Actually, I thought it was stupid. I don't care for it when Arthur does "goofy" stuff like that or when he "acts" out lyrics. Like at Town Hall, when he held up his hand and sang to it "I see your picture, it's in the same old frame". I'll bet he does that evewry show--yuck. He doesn't need it. It's GOT to be real from that moment! It's funny 'cause I've only seen him live once and that was it. But I have a loooong history of watching, knowing, being with vocalists (well, one romantically but several on good friends basis) and singing myself (from time to time) so I know when something rings "true". It may be different in a rock context than a jazz context--but somehow I don't think so. Truth is truth. But then I'm a woman who thinks that lyrics should and must stand on their own and I think AL's lyrics (and music) are strong enough not to need any little stage business extras. I think it dilutes the power of a song, actually. |

Right on jazzymary! I must say I do feel a weird cosmic connection with you. Truth be told, I could relate to your over the top connection with Arthur. More specifically, I LOVED your comment saying
"At Town Hall he said "Martha Stewart" and got a laugh from the audince. He doesn't need it."
I know what you mean! Arthur is a pure and original FORCE! The words "martha" and "stewart" should not be uttered in the same room as Arthur let alone by him. (Who are we to say that considering that Arthur himself sai it. ;) But I know where you are coming from.
You said: "Truth is truth. But then I'm a woman who thinks that lyrics should and must stand on their own and I think AL's lyrics (and music) are strong enough not to need any little stage business extras. I think it dilutes the power of a song, actually."
I agree with you. I must say I have seen Arthur and Love 4 times and the 12/20/02 show changed my life (as corny as that sounds) but the June 5, 2003 show, which I attended with my wife, was probably the greatest experience I ever had, arriving jet-lagged direct from Rome, with no sleep but an intense and concilable wine buzz. Fantastic!!!!!
Separately, I am slowly becoming more of a jazz head though rock is my bread and butter. I read your comments a long time ago where you raved about Coltrane's "Crescent." I recently got it thanks to YOU but haven't really listened to it. Please add any thoughts about it if you think they would help me gain a fuller appreciate of it.
