Without doubt one of the best. Mr Lee was full of menace - offering to fight at least two characters. Stunning performances all-round including 'Mike Simpson' Usual set but left out Rainbow in the Storm. Encore again was 7 and 7 is

Great show. I've seen them twice before and both times I've been bored sooner or later at both but I was entertained from the moment they stepped on stage to the minute they left after the encore on Wednesday.
Primary 5 were dissapointingly bland and void of any real imagination or flare. They seemed decent enough musicians and the band seemed to enjoy themselves and have a good time communicating with the audience but I didn't have a good time watching them.
Love were on blistering form and were entertaining throughout. Arthur threatening some audience members kind of gave the show a weird atmosphere but musically the band couldn't have been faulted. Every song was faithfully reproduced and when the band members started to venture into extended jams and solos they kept things interesting and exciting until the end. The highlight of the night was an inspired version of Everybody's Gotta Live crossed with a version of Instant Karma that John Lennon would've been proud of.
Arthur also mentioned a new album which is exciting news for all Love fans.
Sorry, I don' know the set list. |

I've got to say I don't agree with you about Primary 5. After seeing all the different support acts that Love have had over the last few years I think these were easily the best. Great, catchy, songs, good tunes and a frontman with a genuine presence...I already owned their album but, if I hadn't, I would have been persuaded by the fine performance at these shows to go and buy one. Still'each to his own' as they say As for the 'new album'...all I can say it 'don't hold your breath.' |

I agree with you there Caryne, ie. best support band we've had for Love. I liked them better each time I saw them. |

Enjoyable evening and great to see Echols. I'd like there to have been more musical space though. Echols seemed to be playing some nice wee fills but they were getting buried in the overall band sound. Maybe that's a bit of a lost opportunity? There's that side of Love, the 66 club band opening out into things like Revelation (and the quote at the time from Echols about them playing a kind of jazz-rock) and I'd hoped a bit of that might have come through. |

Euuuch! The idea of a 'free form jazz' Love sounds way too Spinal Tap for my liking. One of the best things about Love, and also one of the reasons why their music has dated so incredibly well is that they managed, for the most part, to step back from the hippyish nonsense which engulfed much (although not all) of West coast rock music from 1968 onwards...one of the reasons I detest the Doors later work is it's just all so damned pompous and self-agrandising. Nah, give me Love and the Turtles over the Doors and all that horrible proto-heavy gubbins any day. |
